Outsourcing someone to tweet?

So I've a website which relies on twitter to gain traffic. Problem is it takes a bit of time to tweet to people etc. so I'm thinking of outsourcing it. It's nothing complicated, just sending a few tweets to people that are involved in certain conversations.

Anyone ever do this before? There's the likes of Elance or whatever it's called now, maybe that's a good option?

Just need someone with decent enough english and a bit of spare time.

hootsuite is what you need ;)
See I kind of need someone to scan tweets to only reply to certain ones. Could do something by keyword but even then it's very very spammy.

From what I know Hootsuite is more for scheduling general tweets etc. Could be wrong though.

You're looking for a service (person) not a tool like Hootsuite.. I would say.. .buyer beware. How tricky is your content? Can a wrong tweet or 2 kill your campaign?

There are plenty of social media managers or people from $5 a month to $50K a month but at the lower end, don't expect too much reflection before they hit the Tweet button...

So if it's simple content, I would look at the eLance (and fiverr or similar) option... but give them clear guidelines on what-where-when-why-how you want things sent to the twitterverse.

Could you write a bot to do it?
Done it before and got blocked fairly fast. I've just realised the account I'm using now can still send tweets but they don't show up to the person who I tweeted. And that's without using a bot!

Never knew they'd do that when it's manually done. Was wondering why I was getting no replies on twitter and tested it sending a tweet to another of my twitter accounts.

I tried this company out based on Doug's recommendations and was not impressed.

It started out well - they have an aggressive sales team that seems to be quite knowledgeable about social media, so I went ahead with it.

For $450 I ended up with 13 posts on Instagram (essentially a picture) plus they followed a bunch of people, some of whom followed back. I'm pretty sure I could have done that in an hour or two myself.

I was told that they would target "influencers" to follow and comment on their Instagram posts - that did not happen. Nor was there much engagement on the Instagram posts they made. The whole process seemed to be very mechanical, with no particular strategy, which would have been fine if that is what they sold it as.

There was no feedback throughout the month, and when I told them I did not want to renew, they did not ask why, which I would that thought to be important.

Hi Atlas, this is Sherman from Good Audience :( Many thanks for the candid feedback here. Would you mind sharing what account this is? I need to take a look at what happened.

Hi Atlas, I think I found you :)

I am sorry that you had an unimpressive experience! I think where I went wrong was not clearly setting the expectations of what would happen in the engagement. We have 3-month terms to allow us to hit all the goals we talked about on the phone call before you signed up. Unfortunately, we didn't make it past month one. Giving it 3 months is especially important when you're working on new channels starting from 0.

In month 1, we play it quite safe in that we don't post too much content or follow people massively. It's about setting the baseline metrics and making sure the account has some consistent activity. Instagram will routinely ban new accounts who try to ramp up too fast. This is to protect against spammers. You actually grew quite fast as new Instagram account with new-ish brand. And you got an above average engagement rate for your audience size :) People are saying "I want this so bad", "I want this more than x", etc. So you definitely see the purchase potential there :)

In month 2, we kick things up into a faster gear. We follow more people on your behalf. We start doing influencer outreach as you now have some content posted and some followers. Things are starting to look legitimized so that influencers will want to work with you.

In month 3, we look at all the data we've collected the past couple of months and can project out what will happen over the course of the year. From new followers, to website visitors, to actual purchases. It's important here to set the yearly goal.

Since I didn't do a good job of explaining our process, I totally understand on your end how it looks like there is no strategy involved :( On our end, we have a very good handle on all the levers and ability to execute against the strategy. My apologies for not communicating that!

Regarding your comment on spending 1-2 hours and doing it yourself.. if you have the time, this is definitely the most cost effective way! The beauty of social media is that it's a level playing field. ANYONE can come in and run a social media account. It's just grunt work... 365 days a year :) It never stops. It never sleeps.

I'm also happy to have a session with you to get a routine and process in place. This is actually a good option if you can't or don't want to hire someone to run your campaigns for you. But like you said it takes 1-2 hours every single day.

For feedback throughout the month, what is a good cadence for receiving it? Most of our customers only want to have a catchup call once a month, at the start of the 1st week of the 2nd month. So this is really cool to learn.

Also, sorry I didn't ask you why you wanted to cancel! This is silly, but I'm in London working on a video project and have been swamped with emails. So I didn't get a chance to reply to your email from 2 days ago yet :(

Thanks sherm8n - I'll contact you directly about this.
