The PAB March meeting report is now online:

http://www.nic.uk/digitalAssets/17282_PAB_meeting_report_49.pdf

The interesting bits are:

PAB Composition Sub-Committee
"It came to the conclusion that no change is to be made at this stage other than to invite experts to present their views on topics under discussion, and for the PAB to present a range of views on policy issues rather than a single resolution".

Expenses Policy
"She also stated that the PAB expenses to date this year were significantly over budget".

Work Programme
"Domaining: The question arose whether the title “Domaining” accurately reflected the subject matter to be debated."

Expenses Policy
"She also stated that the PAB expenses to date this year were significantly over budget".

It was noted that the majority of this was due to increased room hire fees due to sub-committees and overnight accommodation, however it was felt that a policy was also necessary to inform PAB members what expenses were acceptable with a few PAB members not claiming any expenses at all.

Some PAB members expressed concerns about the meal allowances which they felt were low in consideration of the location of the meeting in Central London. Others stated the policy was more generous than those operated by their own employers. It was also noted that the proposed policy was based on Nominet's own staff expenses policy.

The meeting was held at the Westbury Mayfair Hotel . Call me thick... but one cost cutting method could be to change the venue to the pub or at least a less swish hotel :) ... ?!

I agree and I wouldn't mind having it in a board room at Nominet towers - the new one (I would hope) would have a room big enough.

As you will know when I asked this on Nom-Steer I got every reason from most appointed members work in London like Lord Erroll at the House of Lords, DTI, CBI, FSB and therefore London is the most efficient place.

At the same time you have elected members like Michael, Mark and myself coming from places like Leeds, Hull and Stafford.

At least the 5 star AGM hotel is near us www.radissonedwardian.com/manchesteruk_edwardian/ this time however how many appointed PAB members will go to that ? :D

I think this has more to do with stopping PAB members "talking about policy" the night before. As they have also moved the meeting times to the afternoon:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/17117_070228_PAB_work_programme.pdf

"It is therefore proposed that from May 2007, PAB meetings take place from 1.30-4.30 pm with lunch available from 12.30".

I do however welcome the PAB expenses policy and at least we know where we stand now. I might even use my www.youngpersons-railcard.co.uk and publish my expenses :D
