Poll: Who Should Pay Transfer Fees?

Following on from another thread on this site:

If a domain name is for sale on Acorn and the seller has not explicitly specified who is to pay the Nominet transfer fee, what would you do or assume?

1 The buyer is expected to pay the fee.
2 The seller is expected to pay the fee.
3 I would always ask for clarification before buying.
4 Other (eg: depends on value)

As far as I'm concerned, the buyer always pays the transfer fee unless the seller has specifically said that they are paying it. I always state that "buyer pays Nominet fee" in my sales topics, that's more for the benefit of newer members.

I always take it that:

If I'm selling a domain the buyer pays the fee.
If I'm buying a domain then I pay.
If it's a batch of domains they're processed as one transfer.
If it's a trade then both sides pay for their bits.
If it uses escrow then the buyer pays the escrow fee.

... unless stated otherwise by agreement.

Although I'm slightly biased as I'm predominantly a seller, I always assume the buyer will be paying the transfer fee.

I think that when I am selling buyer pays, when I am buying seller pays, all in all Nominet should pay, you should add in one more line "No one should pay"

The buyer, if it's sales here on Acorn (i.e. at a discount). I pay the fee if it's an end-user sale to somebody walking in "off the street" onto my sales site and buying at or near list price. Too much hassle to mess them around for 10 quid on top of a 4-fig transaction!

Transfer charge should be dropped to something more fair or scrapped!

Should help some smaller sales on the forum. Bit of a killer when you want to buy a few names under £50.

It is blatant profiteering for an automated process which in theory Nominet dont have a hand in anymore. The transfer mechanism via email is entirely done by the old & new registrants, how can £11.75, which is four times the annual registration cost, be anything other that creaming off the top?

Paypals' business model was always based on email addresses, even in the early days, and that only costed pennies to run a transaction.

My default assumptions are:

1. buyer pays (unless otherwise stated/agreed).
2. bulk transfers are from the same Nominet account.
3. transfer fees are disproportionately higher than registration fees - couldn't resist

If everybody votes for #1 shouldn't we have a forum rule that formalises this?

I was actually talking about the 'views' being less than the 'votes'. You can't vote without viewing
