I need some recommendations for books to read.

Someone recommend a good educational book on business, motivation, marketing. ;)

One that impacted me the most: Richard Bransons - Losing My Virginity

I read Duncan Bannatyne's 'Wake Up And Change Your Life' and it was surprisingly good. Might be a bit basic for existing business owners though.

I'm currently reading 'The Google Story', it's really interesting.

Thinkertoys - Michael Michalko
Anything You Want - Derek Sivers
Made To Stick - Chip Heath + Dan Heath
Influence - Robert Cialdini
Ignore Everbody - Hugh Macleod

Some of these go off into "finance" but I put together this list for a friend the other day...

- Predictably Irrational (Dan Ariely)
- Selling the Wheel (Jeff Cox)
- How to Get Rich (Felix Dennis)
- Adventure Capitalist (Jim Rogers)
- The Storm (Vince Cable) - about the global financial crisis; much "drier" reading than most of the others, but very educational.
- The Wealthy Barber (David Chilton)
- The Armchair Economist (Steven Landsburg)
- Freakonomics / Superfreakonomics (Stephen Levitt)
- Permission Marketing (Seth Godin)
- Yes! 50 Secrets from the Science of Persuasion (Noah Goldstein)
- The Cluetrain Manifesto (Rick Levine)

Keep 'em coming, I'm planning to get myself offline at 9pm each night and start reading these types of books.

I'm sure others will find these lists interesting too.

Some I have enjoyed over the years

The Richest Man in Babylon

Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway (written for women I think but great)

And anything by Og Mandino, in fact everything by Og Mandino.

Good Luck

Aiden

Never mind all the books and Guru nonsense... the best motivating factor for me is when I tell myself, Get yer arse into gear and get some work done or you'll be on the streets in 4 weeks. Homelessness is more motivating than any pseudo psychology pricks book.

How to win friends and influence people, can anyone tell I've never read it :)

Read it? I thought you wrote it!

Bruce

Not long after I graduated I went for an interview with Aberdeen Appointments Agency in Union Street Aberdeen.. and this little snivelling toryboy actually advised me to read that book before I went for another interview... Well, obviously I booted him in the balls for his cheek and thanked him for his time.

AAA, or was it AA.... I'm confused now :)

Thanks for all the responses guys

Just ordered these two for starters

How to Get Rich - Felix Dennis
Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion - Robert Cialdini

Should provide some thought provoking reading.

I'm presently reading Paper Money Collapse by Detlev Schlichter.

It explains the origins and functions of money, and makes a convincing case that the financial system is facing total collapse. Sounds alarmist but is anyone following the news right now? In the book the argument is made through very simple logic in the early chapters backed up with multiple historical episodes later in the book.

Today I finished reading...

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion - Robert Cialdini

And what a good read it was too.

I can now look at marketing literature and begin to see the reciprocal, social proof, scarcity influence techniques he's described in the book.

I'm hoping these will help me with the copy on my own affiliate sites to increase my conversion rates.

All in all, good book, well recommended.

Cheers for the recommendation.

Recently I read Top Man, its the story of Philip Green (arcadia owner) and was very good. Ive also recently brought books by Theo Paphitis, James Caan and Felix Dennis.

Also books I previously read that are good for motivation are Who Moved My Cheese and Fish!

Happy reading :)

When I can find a moment, I am really looking forward to installing the Amazon e-reader software, so then I can read e-books. I like reading, but haven't the space for anymore physical books, so the e-reader software is the way forward!!

I once read some of Felix Dennis's "How to Get Rich" in a Waterstones, but put it back because I didn't want to spend the money. A few weeks ago, I found it on Amazon, and read all the free preview ... however, it does look to be a good book so it might be one of the first e-books I buy.

Rgds

I have started 'How to Get Rich' by Dennis.

Who moved my cheese had a good message but seemed a bit basic to dedicate a book to it.

I've also started the '4hr work week'

I've read both Felix Dennis How to Get Rich (surprisingly refreshing) plus Tim Ferris' 4 Hour Work Week - and would recommend both

One I just finished reading is Get Out While You Can by George Marshall....

....very surreal moment around half-way through when I sensed a real familiarity - then after about 20 seconds research realised George is a forum member here (Diablo)....for anyone who hasn't read and looking for a 2012 kick up the arse, I'd heartily recommend!
