seo on shop

hello all, maybe a silly question but how do i get a shop ranking well in google? as i cannot really add much content due to having products...

i`m in the process of building Exercise Supplies : Fitness Equipment : Exercise Equipment : Training Equipment

i`ve tried adding h1,2,3,4, ect but everytime i add them the page looks tottally wrong... as i`m a novice i dont really know what i`m doing... i know they are only very basic but i`d appreciate any other advice on seo...

It's simple really, get a lot of decent links into the site. Off page SEO is way more important than On page.

You can still add content and/or a blog.

Your h1 should be 'fitness supplies', and h2's should be 'fitness equipment', 'exercise equipment' etc.

You can make them look any way you want with css.

h1 { display: inline; font-size: 1.4em etc.... }

Use position absolute where you need to hide text and show an image instead.

Oh, forgot to say, make sure your meta-descriptions include the keywords you want any particular page to rank for.

You can try to improve the internal linking structure of your website to improve ranking for certain pages. Use Yahoo Site Explorer, Google Webmaster Tools, or your analytics program to find which pages have the most link love and which ones have the least.

Change of plan

I`ve decided to put all my efforts into one site my led site in sig this site gets a few hits per day (50-150) and make`s abit but some days it makes alot more money and as i`m a learner i dont know what the next step is to make constant money off the site...

I`ve heard all about adding links to the site off forums, i`ve been trown off 3 this week for "spamming" all i`ve done is had site in sig.

I`ve tried looking for blogs to write on but just about everything has already been written.

Submitting to search engines is this just going to say yahoo and typing submit site then doing so?

My site is at the top off google and yahoo for key word led gu10 should get a lot off hits according to google keyword tool...

But i dont know what the next step is to make more money, should i make more pages? and if so just add content and no products?

Its really p@@ing me off as i dont know what to do, i`m sure this is common knowledge to everyone else on here but i dont have a clue and what i`ve done hasnt worked...

One thing that stood out immediately viewing the site from a customers perspective were the price of the bulbs at the top of the page, are they for a lighthouse... Myself, and I'm sure the majority of visitors will be looking for what I call the standard bulb and price at the bottom, you would have had about 2 secs of my attention tbh.

Hopefully if you swapped it round customers would see what they were looking for and then look at alternatives, do you know the average time on site ?

You need a lot of visitors to translate this into healthy affiliate sales. This is espicially so if you using Amazon on products that are around £20 = £1 commission? An option may therefore be to look for other merchants that offer a higher commission.

You may expect to get a few of sales per 100 visitors, so around £3-4 per day based on a simple calculation.

Consider, if you had a site on docking stations and you could make 5% commission on products that were £50-100 - you could be making £20 a day from a site like that (at least)

You can try to get more visitors by creating more pages based on long tail keywords. Find related keywords that people are searching for or look at your site stats and discover what search terms people are using to get to your site. If you are position 8 for a keyword that 5 people have found your site on, concentrate on getting to the top of the search engine pages for that keyword (you may then get 30-40 visitors for that keyword)

As for link building, I think most of your traffic will come organically through the search engines (unless you pay to feature on a high traffic site) and as you are position one already I wouldn't worry too much about it - just do some stuff gradually. For ranking for a keyword I can not recommend highly enough this thread on another forum (the guy ranks highly for articles on GoArticles ffs!)

Thanks Tricky, i`ll change it around abit, to be honest the one at the top is the most sold, so thats why i moved it there, but i would probably get more sales over all, if i but the cheapest ones at the top of the page.

I`m sure the site will get an extra 100 or so visits from this site today and if everyone could put in your comments/advice that would be great...

Thanks Springer, I get 6.5% of amazon but it doesnt really ammount to much when there only buying something for £5.00.

I try and get the 3 click in place, find it, information, buy it.. but theres only so much info about a product on amazon... altho the strange thing is ppl will search a led bulb then end up buying an ipod or a dovet cover, so very strange...

I will make some more pages up with different content like you said, i only use statcounter (dont really understand analitics) so only get certain info...

doh, I understand, i added a ps3 and wii on the home page just in case anyones looking for them over xmas and visits the site.

I didnt know wether it was another term for some sort of affiliate. I have many other domains that i want to develop into something similar to this but want to get this one making a good average and getting lots of visitors/more conversions before i start off with another.

any other advice for getting more visits? off site tinkering?
