Hello, I'm new to this.

Earlier today I bought www.CheapGlasses.org.uk
It fell through, GoDaddy's database had screwed up.

Then I bought RonanParkMusic.com
(He should have won Britain's Got Talent)
Realised I had spelt his name wrong, there's an 'e' at the end of Park.

So I go to buy RonanParkeMusic.com
It's taken

Then I try to go take money out my bank to go to the cinema tomorrow to watch hangover 2, bank has frozen my account due to the weird activity, GoDaddy had tried to put money back, and now I can't afford tomorrow.

Sometimes I hate domains. :(

Do yourself a favour, don't register trademarked names or the names of ceebrities or potential celebrities, it will be very easy for them to take the name off you, and may cost you in legal fees as well.

It's also frowned upon by domainers, there are several topics on here about people who registered the names of X-Factor or Britains Got Talent contestant names, it gives proper domainers a bad name as domain squatters etc.

I see your point, although I don't see how they could, I mean, If I was called Ronan Parke, why would he have any right over me?

Probably me being inexperienced and naive, but it's a genuine question.

You aren't called Ronan Parke though.

Fair enough if your real name was Ronan Parke, but if that's not your name, then you would have registered the name in 'bad faith' in order to profit from the celebrities name, bad faith is the term used when someone with a claim to a domain name would use when applying for a DRS for .co.uk names or an UDRP for .com's

In general terms, it's ok to own a domain in the name of a celebrity, as long as you are not seen to be profiting from the domain, but the minute you start putting affiliate links on there to that celebrities music, films or whatever, then you leave yourself open to them taking the domain from you, so, with those types of names, whilst you could put some sort of fan site on the domain, you can't monetise it, so your time would be better spent registering generic product domains to make money from.

Thanks, this is actually useful advice, will take on board :)

If you go round regging stuff that's conflicting and end up paying legal fees then you won't be going to the cinema for a long time !

Also if it's a choice between the cinema or a domain at £7 then maybe you should wait till you have more money before regging domains.

And always double check spellings on Google, Wikipedia and an online dictionary but they are not always right either, I regged labido.co.uk thinking I had a good one, Google never suggested and alternative spelling and an online dictionary had it spelt labido yet the actual spelling is libido.

Yeah, I'd steer clear of registering this sort of thing. There's not much to be gained from giving yourself problems further down the line.

Research and Test, Research and Test

Bookmark this Company name and trade mark checker Several variants around but I use this one. It pays to do half hours research before registering and domain name, check the term in the search engines over and over, cached or otherwise. some due-diligence and it will pay in the long term.

If the domain name has been in previous use it may be beneficial to check the internet archives or other variants before getting too carried away.

Understand Nominet's Dispute Resolution Service (DRS)

Save yourself a lot of time and money and take things into consideration before registering anything. 9/10 your idea will have been developed long ago, affiliate sites created and sitting, not earning. Competition is often fierce.

Not putting you off at all, I just don't want you or anyone for that matter to waste their energies. Best of luck.
