Had the Pearl for 18 months. Time to upgrade.

Just dont know what to go for. Any thoughts?

Neither, I don't know anyone including myself who has only had 1 blackberry, they are prone to damage.

If your on contract and Insured go for it but no insurance no blackberry.

^ What would you suggest then Skinner, i'm in the same boat as pendragon? Any recommendations as per roaming use too, seeing as that's in the pot too?

Does anyone know when new models are due to be released?

I have my free upgrade September - December and would hate to get one just as a new version comes out a month or so later!!

Prone to damage? I don't think so, I had a bold for 6 months and last month switched to the newer Curve 8900, only difference is size and lack of 3G, but both are solid phones to be honest. I don't like touchscreen phones, I text and email a lot so the keyboard is a must for me.

In the last 18-24 months, I've had about 15 phones.

I have had 2 iphones (the 1st/2nd) both had the same problem (aside from pc tethering/bluetooh file transfer/mms etc not working), you put the phone in your pocket the screen warms up to the temp of your leg and stops working. What use is a phone you can't keep in your pocket ?

Now on wired.com they are saying the new 3gs gets so hot its MELTING the actual case heh, useless.

I've had the Storm and Bold, the bold used to random reset itself, as in a factory reset wiping everything out. The Storm the screen was useless, it was soft and squidgy almost, and pretty damned random.

My current choice of phones are Sony Ericsson C905 or the X1, or Nokia e75 or LG Renoir as a fun phone.

Never had phone insurance and often pay full whack for an unlocked unit - and cross my fingers :) Touch wood all fine.

I am currently on the bold - IIRC the curve has no wifi , and storm has no 3G - it could be the other way around - just double check those. Bold is a solid phone but camera is crap.

I love the push email on it, next handset probably a N97 once they sort the firmware out :)

Adam, your either special or unique.

blackberry trackball not working - Google Search EVERYONE i know has had this problem

Blackberry bold resetting - Google Search I had this problem and half the people I know.

blackberry storm screen problems - Google Search I had this problem where the touch screen just locked and wouldnt work.

The list of errors is endless!

I have given the google links here so you can see the magnitude of the errors.

p.s. Rob i liked the look of the n97 but I've had the N series (80/83/92) before they are useless.

Touchscreens are shit if you're driving (come on, everyone does it) and prone to double entry issues, but in their favour are perfect for screen rotation applications.
I hate the contract renewal period, make the wrong choice, and you're lumbered with shite for 18-24 months at a time. My priority is easy & straight forward email access, cheap contract/roaming costs, and maybe internet access that doesn't bleed the wallet dry. And a guarantee that the software works with 64bit Vista would be nice too.
I've been put off the Blackberrys' now. Sigh!

Had my bold do random resets as well :)

Yes had a couple but have good cameras which is useful for travel. Out of the last lot I have had I think the n82 was the last time I was quite happy with a handset and thats going back a couple of years.

DT look at the Nokia E75 or Sony Ericsson X1 if you need a keyboard, the latest X1 firmware fixed so many of the issues.

Cheers Skinner, will do. It'll take a good write up to push me back to Sony Ericssons though. I got stung on a business contract for two straight forward K850i's, what a load od crap they were. Luckily both were with business insurance. Over 18 months, one was replaced 4 times, the other one 3 times. Without the insurance, I shudder to think how much it would have cost me. I still get cold sweats thinging about that deal!

I loved the bold, but the random restarts is why I looked to the new Curve 8900. It is the other way around, as I said before the Curve 8900 only lacks 3G. It has wifi as I use this regularly.

Seriously, I've had no issue with my Curve 8900 then again I have only had this one a month as previously used the Bold.

I love the new Nokias too now, but BBM has become such a great tool, I can't imagine not having it.

The 850 was a bastardised k800 and they did a rubbish job of it, Sony have a deadline where they have to release new phones, and the k850 was one of them and the p1i was another.

What the deal with that stupid 'wannabe a touch screen' deal on the k850 and the multi-directional keypad on the p1i ?

p1i .... GRRRRRR

The whole P series makes me get like lee owen.

I had the p1i for pretty much 8 hours in total before I took it back heh.

The p900 was the last decent one, when they started to mess with Qwery Keyboards they just had no clue, I lived with the p910 as it was almost the same, the p990 was the last one I owned (and still have).

I remember being amazed when I had my p800 replaced coz I cracked the screen, suddenly my p800 wasn't black and white, it had a colour screen, what simple things amazed me back then :)

Yeh, three heat sensitive(?) white dots above the keypad/beneath the screen. You would touch one, then fuck off and make a cup of tea whilst the phone responded. What a joke, lol!

I've had the Bold for nearly a year now. Best phone I have had to date and I have had a few. Only isue I have is it can be a bit large too pocket sometimes.

It did reset on occasion but the firmware upgrade sorted this out.

Still reckon this to be the best qwerty / email phone. I looked at the 8900 but the quality of build did not compare to the Bold. The Storm is just not my thing being a touchy touchy phone.

Voda also do a deal on the roaming at the moment.

Gary

once you get used to the touchscreen the storm is a great mobile, new updates always coming out, did one the other day and it gave me a new keyboard layout.
