Hi,

I wasn't going to make this post however this thing is starting to bug me.

I bought this domain Teens.co.uk a month ago, and planned to make a big teen gossip/news/make-up/dating/forum site etc etc.

e.g. http://www.teen.com

The only issue however is that every time I bring up this domain everyone assumes it's a porn site. Can you just let me know in this thread if you think this is a good domain to develop for my intentions or if you just think it's a porn domain?

Thanks.

Perhaps you better change the company you are keeping ;)

A GKT search produces various teen related terms, none that appear to be porn related.

One of those domains where you have to establish your (or at least the sites) credentials.

It's a great domain - It would need lots of trustworthy content and associations to make it work ( and even then difficult -things won't turn around on a sixpence)

Hope you didn't pay to much for it - sort of name that you'd have to donate or associate with the right entity to come out clean imho

I dont understand what you mean. Why would I need to donate with the right entity to come out clean?

I'm planning to develop a teen gossip/news/health site on it - all that teen shit. I'm happy with my plans for it.

I just want to know if it's a suitable domain or if it just sounds like a porn domain. Around 5 of the people I've brought it up with instantly said it just sounds like a porn site.

Well Google and the rest rightly apply filters to any search - But, as a real world reality it would need to be associated with a trustworthy outlet. I still think it's a great domain name.

Its a good name for what you intend using it for but you may need to police your forum in case undesirables find it and try to use it to groom youngsters in which case you could have a lot of grief and bad publicity coming your way

OK addz123. What do you think your traffics going to be.

I can't believe for one moment you acquired the name without any awarness - play stupid if you want

I still don't understand what you're saying?

Are you saying it's dangerous to develop a teen site or something?

Many would have seen the domain for sale.

I'm surprised you feel you need some sort of reassurance.

Run with it, i'm sure your capable

It just needs one pervert on your site and you could find yourself on the national news and with the paps camped out on your front lawn.
Policing it will be a lot of work, even of you get linked/associated with an authority.
If you feel you can do that and are strong enough to take any flak that may come your way then good luck but running a teen forum is not something I would do.
An ecommerce site aimed at teens or an info site about growing up may be more prudent as these would not provide any type of inter-member contact

Yep - this man/boy thinks he can control all the links and all associations.

"searched and found nothing porn related" tells you where his starting from.

If you're concerned, why not omit the forum aspect of the site? If it's just gossip and news articles and you moderate the comments sections, I fail to see what there is to be worried about.

GAKT won't show adult results unless you check the box in the Advanced section.

Good practice to see the possible downside of any investment.

Some Can - some choose not to

I'm a bit fed up of your forum posts.

All I asked is opinions of whether it's a porn domain. So far you've denigrated the domain, basically called me a fool, referred to me as a "man/boy", made up quotes which don't appear anywhere in this forum, used me as a case of how to make poor judgement investments.

There is plenty of potential developing this domain without any troubles. My plans have always been to build a education/news/gossip/health/relationship/fashion/competitions site, with a forum maybe on the side.

Apologies if that's illegal and high risk in your world, and that I've thrown my money down the drain.

Perhaps you should contact teen vogue and thestudentroom.com and let them know of the risks of a pedophile destroying their site.

thanks.

It is an idiotic post title. The moderators should have deleted it straight away.

Acorn is going down the pan as far as post title quality. Swear words and adult words everywhere.

People look at this industry though sites like this and my god what sort of impression do they get. I'm becoming more embarassed all the time using it and I guess others are too.

The Man/boy comment was perhaps a little OT.

But to my mind you either understand your "Business enviroment" or you don't. I'd rather shoot somebody down then pretend "your choice" of 5+ commentators were wrong , If I agree with them

I'll watch out for your development of "Teens.co.uk" and lets see just how much of your ideas come into play... looking forward to seeing the site or perhaps just referencing your comments here in the months to come.

Somehow - I can imagine you blaming everyone and his dog for why "teens.co.uk" never came to be - well lets see

Fair comment Caz but we've all seen teens.co.uk up for sale.

If this guys genuine, why would he even bring his motives into public consultation... It would be worse to ignore.

I'm no prude and I certainly don't always agree with Caz - but I do feel you're right here.

Slightly on-topic: I reported the thread "**it.me.uk* the other day as I felt it shouldn't be in the title, it's still there I see. Admittedly we all have different standards and perhaps it's a sad reflection of 'modern' times that some words are much more acceptable now than even 20/30 years ago.

As a kid I wouldn't have dared say most of the words some kids utter on the school bus thesedays (most of them don't even know what they mean anyway!).
