Thumbnail from a URL

Does anyone know a way of creating a thumb nail via an image in a post brought in by a url?

At the moment I have to have a local copy of the image for it to set as a thumb nail

you can create a custom meta field in the post called something like "offsiteurl"

then just reference that in the code.

Check out timthumb i'm pretty sure it supports offsite images.

timthumb only supports locally stored images unless very heavily hacked.

Custom fields would be the best way to achieve what op is asking though.

do you mean like on my directory where the api fetches screen shots of the website automaticly?
