i am probably the worst advertiser known to man, is there something i should know about using adwords because it is costing me £3.85 per click and earning zilch  ,is this normal and what other advertising should i try because at this rate i will be bankrupt,i put £500 into my adwords account and the iframe i was using to convert the loans had corrupted so it went straight down the pan,if anybody could give me pointers to a successful advertising campaign i would really appreciate it.

Instead of bidding on one worders like "Loans" or "Personal Loans" look at bidding on "low interest personal loans" this should bring the cost down a lot.

It should tell you the cost of what clicks might be so you can judge costings.

More to it than just that but thats one tip.

ORGANIC all the way......................... ;)

problem i have is i am in a saturated marketplace(payday loans) and the keyword is huge in size not popularity,i looked on the keyword tool and it had only 300 search terms that month local eaxct and competition was 50 % so i was trying to find a less competitive term and i am still paying too much wonga.

don't worry gdg i will take you up on that offer of you walking around hull with a sign board strapped to you

Are you just iframing the offer or are you iframing the offer it within the content?

Have you tried buying traffic from bing and yahoo (much less volume but certainly a lot cheaper) might be a better place to start your testing.

Have you got anything in place to show you which of your keywords are generating conversions (when that does eventually happen)?

i have tried many keywords but even the long tail keywords are fetching huge ppc,has anybody used bing before and had any success ? i am not the best with ppc advertising and it is a bit hit and miss kind of attitude but i usually rely on organic traffic and then i don't throw money down the drain.

It's the dreaded word "loan". I don't think you will honestly get a cpc lower then £3.00 and i would think it will be the same for Bing.

even gdg's long tailed phrase is a whopping £5+

You could always increase your portfolio?
I do have the following: (all co.uk)

loans-fast
simply-loans
1loan
just-loans
loansource
premiumloans
toploan

0800loans
freephoneloans

.

You should be able to find a free bing voucher to have a go. But I think you've hit the nail on the head - when you are using free traffic you're not forced into the same discipline when you are paying per click. If you have a decent amount of organic traffic, you should start doing some A/B testing of your layout and definitely worth having something like tracking202 installed (depending on the reporting you have from your affiliate network) in order to see which keywords are driving the conversions. It's work - but if you can make it work then the rewards are huge.

Good luck and don't give up :)

sorry what is a/b traffic?

They are talking about A/B testing, which is a testing methodology whereby you test two different variations, A and B, and see which you get the best results with, e.g. two different versions of a PPC ad, two different versions of a landing page etc.

Have you joined affiliate marketing school? That is ALL about PPC with loans

What's sort of quality score are you showing for your keywords...may also need to trim down your list and shelve those keywords that arn't getting any clicks to improve your CTR, which will over time reduce the CPC.

Do your ads only appear on Google search, or are you also showing them on the content network (Google Search Partners)?

Great post DomainAngel, tips all make sense :) looking to test out a campaign with some free Adwords vouchers which were sent to me so will be having a go at all this.

Cheers
