That's a fantastic success story, and in quite a short space of time too (according to the timeline on the eConversions corporate site, VoucherCodes.co.uk launched 3 years ago, in August 2008).

The most interesting piece of the puzzle will probably never be known, unfortunately, and that is how much they spent during the intervening 3 years to cement their #1 position in the voucher code market.

Anyway, shows that 1+1>2 (great name, plus great execution = big bucks)

Nice to hear

Well all i can say is lovely jubbly xx,xxx, xxx

that would make a gr8 thread here ,

er sorry i just had a bid of 38,000,000 on pm

but looking for 40,000,000 :p

one day maybe

Fantastic. A great point for us all to aim for :)

Now just wait for the silly posts of domains like Voucher--Codes.eu.com for £50k ;)

Also shows the power of a good email marketing strategy - direct communication with inboxes that want to receive it = ££££££££

Congrats - wonder what their next project is... !

Yes seems to be big money in these Voucher code sites. I guess they do even better as recession hits and people look for a bargain.

I suspect they also do well as some people habitually Google search for a code for anything they buy so the VC site will have the latest Cookie for the affiliate sale, even if in fact they didn't have any valid voucher codes at the time.

I have a few of these domains but it seems to me they need staffing to get all the voucher codes fully published as the feeds I have seen are flaky.

Is anyone here doing well with a VC affiliate site?

Not yet but with the sale of this my voucher domain may just be the one I enter from Boxfish's challenge.....

....been sitting in my todo pile for a while. Time to dust off the cobwebs me thinks

apparently as we speak Doug is trying to beat Michael Carrolls' record of blowing £30 million on drugs and prostitutes in 5 years

to quote Goerge Best:

' I spent most of my money on flash cars, booze and birds.................. the rest I just squandered' :D

Vouchercodes.co.uk have never been the number 1 voucher site in the UK. That position belongs to myvouchercodes.co.uk. Though I guess that blows your argument that their EMD plays a big part of it :p

Wonder what Doug and Frog think of this :D

I think its great. I'm established enough that the people who are going to set up a "me too" site this afternoon are of no concern to me. It just sets the bar for everyone else to try and cash out above :)

I don't know the market at all, I was just going by the quote in the article linked from the first post: "Vouchercodes is the UK’s largest coupon site, says Whaleshark."

That is just an outright lie from whaleshark - there is no metric at all that you could realistically use to come to that conclusion.

Sounds like a fantastic deal, well done to all involved, especially as they are continuing business as normal

Why would you sell then go back to work?

If you want to work there then keep ownership (and all the upside of it).

Is it a vote of no confidence from the owner if he wants to cash in now?

They may be going by the member base although there are others with more members. There is money to be made for sure but you need lots of money to compete

Mark Pearson (MyVoucherCodes):

This is a really exciting time for the voucher and discount market place and I would like to offer my congratulations to the VoucherCodes team for their exit. As the owner of the UK's largest and most profitable voucher site, and with the fastest growing international portfolio of discount websites we remain hugely positive that the future of our industry remains very strong.

As you would expect we are entirely focussed on doing everything we can to continue to save consumers money in these tough economic times. We obviously look forward to the challenge of keeping the much coveted crown of being the UK's number one voucher code website both in terms of organically driven traffic numbers, turnover and profit.
