Just had a £600 bill from getty images for an image that's on one of my sites. Don't think it's a scam all looks legit.

Tbh its over 2 years old and I took from some shitty wp blog via google images.

Ironically its not even a great pic and I normally buy stock images, but fair enough - suppose I been caught red handed so maybe everyone check where your images are from in future.. even if they old..

not good.

to be honest, i dont even check where my images come from half the time!

Product images I normally grab from affiliate feeds or manufacturers.

I then get other images from istockphoto.com

This has been going on for a few years now - paid images are the only way forward.

Nicking images and content is not legal, let alone sustainable.

Are you going to pay? I had a similar request but from another site saying I had nicked one of their pictures, I shall not say what I told them to do. Generally try and be careful, its prob better to steal the pictures from competitors as they have less legal clout than Getty.

Can you just delete it and apologize like YouTube does with infringed content?

This is to provoke responses I presume? whatever it's not that clever IMO

How is anyone to check if an image is royalty free or not?

If I buy a template from someone how would I know they own the right to distribute the images?

good point admin..what if you purchased a website or pc from someone, and you could through no fault of your own have inherited unlicensed images?

How did Getty know you hadn't paid for the image?

There's been a lot about this - as Getty seen to be bullying :

Whether you have stolen the image, inherited or downloaded what you thought were legitimate images, read this info first.
