Datafeed Import Plugin

Hi all

Thanks for creating this thread.

To introduce myself, I am the creator of the Datafeed Import Plugin. I am an affiliate marketer and I needed a quick and easy way of making datafeed driven websites. I created the plugin for my use.

When created it was very simple, it only handled CSV files, one feed at a time, no custom fields. I released it as a plugin as I saw that other people had the same issues as affiliates as I did, not wanting to start coding websites for every niche they wanted to work in.

Since then it has developed drastically into the product that we have now.

Yes there are a couple of problems with it. I am working on an issue with the advanced filtering option and with a database problem which seems very specific to some users.

I always ask users to report back any issues they have and any suggestions they have for improvements. All users get free upgrades, not only to fixes but also new features.

I tend to release new versions every couple of weeks, both with bug fixes and new features.

I do not work on this full time; it is a hobby for me. I have many users all using the plugin doing some very exciting things with it!

Hope this gives an insight into what I am trying to do with the plugin.

Thanks

Thanks for the post. But tbh alot of people starting out in affiliate marketing A: dont have much money and B: are not that clued up on AM. My above post was merly warning acorn members of the way your plugin is at the moment and dont want them wasting their time on money.

I hope you can keep us upto date (me especially) on the plugin and its progress and hopefully it can be a good way of using feeds with wordpress.

does anyone know of any other good datafeed to wordpress plugins.

Would you consider there to be a big enough market for a premium plugin? I've already started the process on this which will be based on some of the custom work I did on affilistore enhanced, plus a lot more. All rewritten from the ground up.

All other plugins import csv's into WP taxonomy, this will allow that but will mainly be a shopbuilder with a custom set of tables.

It won't be free, and probably not cheap for multi-use.

Datafeed Import Plugin for Wordpress has been updated

I have today released a new version of the Datafeed import plugin for wordpress fixing some issues with the database table creation and with the advanced filters.

I am working on added functionality of more filters and support for XML and RSS which I hope to introduce in the near future.

Take a look at Wordpress Datafeed Plugin for more information on this new release

Thanks

I've been playing around with the demo for about half an hour....

IMO - this is a really NICE plugin....

Thinking off the top of my head and please bare in mind the short time I've had to play with it....

From an SEO point of view...

It would be better to upload images rather than link (img src=) to display them - there's an ebay plugin that does this... auction2post... I think?

Search engines don't rank (effectively) websites that have descriptive content, titles, meta data etc... duplicated from feeds.

It would be beneficial to have the option to create new posts for new products but only overwrite previously published posts where certain information has changed .. such as price! .. allowing the site owner to write their own descriptions etc.

Also, many WP themes have an option to enter information such as excerpts & thumbnails. These options would be very handy.....

Just my thoughts.....

I think there will be many readers interested in this plugin... how about offering a discount code for acorndomains members?

Hi Ellis

Thanks for your comments and your input. All very much valid and valued.

I do have in my 'to do' list the ability to have the plugin download the images from a given URL. Not too difficult to do code wise but I need to have it do that sort of thing in the background as processing a feed with 5000+ rows and 5000+ images could take a while, but it is something I am working on.

You are right about the ability to update specific fields of a post rather than the whole thing, I will add this to the wish list.

Excerpts will be in the next version, due to be released sometime early in the new year.

Thanks for your comments though.

Paullas

I did email you asking for specific details of what happens, when it hangs and details about your setup. If you can email me more details I will happily look into it for you, but I need to be able to replicate the issue before I can fix any problems.

I have not had anyone else raise any of these issues, other than one user who has upgraded to wp2.9, for which a minor fix will be released later today.

Thanks

I am using this plugin and would recommend it! Looking forward to the updated version that contains the seo benefits Ellis mentioned!

All

I have just updated the plugin with some minor updates. This fixes some issues with the database checks and some of the warning issues under some PHP configurations.

I have had some users who have had difficulty using the plugin and it turns out that they are running PHP4. The plugin will only work with PHP5 so I am adding this to the website to make it clear.

Remember there is a discount of 'acorndomains' meaning you can get the plugin for £20

This discount will be available until the end of January 2010.
