Suggestions and opinions Please !!! especially from Skinner and Systreg

This is the proudest day of my cyber life !!! lol

NB* took 20 minutes from start to publish

I will add the other page later when i think what to put ?

Here it is Mortgages - Home

It's a lot better than my first webpage, is there a reason some words are coloured blue?

I'd perhaps question the niche more than anything, if your going to spend time developing ... is now the time to be doing it on a mortgage site? perhaps one to put away for later.

Thanks !!!

Yes some letters in blue because i copied and pasted content which had links in it.

I will go back later and try to change the colour ?

See what you mean about the niche in the current market lol, this was purely a random test.

Thanks for looking.

Considering the fact that this is your first site and you've spent next to no time, great work! The overall design is quite professsional, but a little confusing. Would suggest you start by designing a 'Down Payments' logo for the top left to give the site more of an identity, and move away from that typical 'template look and feel'. Also, look for better quality images for your header strip.

Time and effort will pay dividends :)

Congrats!

Cheers mate !!!

This looks like a template because it is lol

I need to start exploring Dream weaver and Wordpress ???

Thanks for looking

I will improve this over the next few days.

It's a lot better than the first site I ever made on geocities in about 2001, I had never used a computer before that and had only just heard of something called the internet, it was bloody horrendous site, metallic wavy purple background and fancy decorative silver divider bars, flashing lights the lot, hideous :D

About the only thing that needs changing is your font colour, it's too dark on that dark background, personally, I always have a white background where the main content goes and use black text on that.

can i add aff banners to this site?

If you have Adsense, you have a nice empty square on the left of the page underneat the "Down payments" text, you could put a 336x280 Adsense rectangle there, although those are better used within main page content with the text wrapping around them, or you could have a 468x15 Adsense bar just above the first line of text in the content.

Whenever you have a bit of spare time, have a look at your source code by opening the file with notepad, play around with it a bit, it helps you to learn what each bit oh html does, I see your sourcecode is just one long piece of code with virtually no spaces, try breaking it up a bit, like at the end of a table(</table>), put a couple of break lines in, makes it easir to find where you want to be when editing manually.

Thanks Systreg !!!

Going to look into that source code ?

Not sure where to look for it ? i really am a basic web maker, i think saying web developer would be overstated

Going to join up with G adsense and maybe Paidonresults

Trial and error !!!

@ DoodleBug, to view the source code, right click on the page and click "view source", alternatively, depending on what browser you are using, go to the tool bar above your browser and click on "view", then click "source".

I would say that if you are going to succeed, you do need to use your own design rather than a template, because otherwise you won't be able to optimally tune your website to get traffic. Take a look at WebRef.eu and see the sections on Conversion Rate Optimisation, Web Design Tutorials and Search Engine Optimisation.

Rgds

Thanks, Sysytreg and Accelerator

I will try that source code thing and look at webref. :t

If I were you I'd forget dreamweaver & download Gimp - it's free & just as good as photoshop et al. There's loads of tutorials for gimp on you tube too.

I have Gimp 2 but there are so many icons and tools to use lol
Going to take some time to get use to it.

I made a second site today with a photo gallery Eminem - Home

Please stop what you are doing immediately, your sites are awful.

I only say this after seeing your second attempt, nothing seems to have moved on since offering 1.

Learn to do it correctly, comments like there are too many icons, are quite insulting to the person who posted to help you.

With all the fab free templates out there, I found your offering similar to that of a 10 year olds, and that is being unfair to the 10 year old.

This may sound like a really mean post, however, it is not intended to be so.

Looking at your efforts, the self learning/taught route by trial and error, is just not for you.

If you do not wish to use the internet/youtube etc to learn, download some dummies books and learn from scratch.

You will do yourself so many favours by learning correctly, you may even pick up some eye for design.

You may want to try templates from templatemonster.com if you want a really good one, less than £35 for most.

A/ I won't be stopping !!!

I only say this after seeing your second attempt, nothing seems to have moved on since offering 1.

A/ Well it was done like a few hours later than the first so don't know what difference you were expecting ???

A/ Try reading my reply, it says it will take me time to get use to Gimp2 and not i can't be bothered !!!

A/ Then why don't you point things out like an adult rather than acting like a 10 year old, sorry !!! 8 year old

Looking at your efforts, the self learning/taught route by trial and error, is just not for you.

A/ Let's assume your an expert in web design ? this is your advice to someone who as only ever made 2 sites and only done so for 1 day ( erm ? )

A/ I do use the internet to learn and books from the library.

A/ Given time maybe so ?

A/ Again i might buy some templates sometime ?

NB* I said in my first post, i am doing a web design course starting next year, these site builders are to have a play around with !!!

Calm down girls!!

Go have a look at free css templates (just type that into google & go to the top site) - there's loads of free templates on there, some excellent ones.

Play around with the css & html & you'll get the hang in no time - I certainly did.

Thanks Dashu1,

I will Google css Templates, i havn't even considered css yet, only looked at html

Getting an idea of html through looking at website source code

Again Thanks for your helpful posts

It's dead easy - the css (cascading style sheet) sets out rules for things like where an object/picture will appear on a page, the size or colour of fonts, etc.

You then call the required function in the html & the html page follows the instruction from the style sheet.

Just google any css commands/whatever you want to call them if you get stuck & you'll find loads of instructions of how to use each one.

Over and above style & formatting, I would say that nicking the copyrighted content (from decision-finance.co.uk?) is the biggest transgression

Yes some letters in blue because i copied and pasted content which had links in it.

Also it's worth mentioning that HTML specifies elements, not functions. The elements are 'styled' according to your CSS. I only mention this as it may help you avoid confusion later. A really good place to start is: http://www.w3schools.com/

Decision-Finance.co.uk doesn't exist ?

Anyway Thanks for the advice on the difference between CSS and HTML
and the link.

NB* I am tying my best to avoid using unauthorised content, if you look at all my photos on my mortgage site they are all public domain.
