Congratulations, Lee. That's a very nice sale - and I'm guessing all the nicer for being "out of the blue" like a small mid-week lottery win.

Thanks, it's all luck on how I got it, some had it loaded, others completely missed it when looking through the lists. When I caught it I thought to myself £5000 instant, I worked a lot to get the sale but most interested were right in front of me, some end users bid but wasn't long enough to get the big companies in to hear, tried phoning but didn't get far.

I contacted over 100. Nevermind, not a bad return for two days, could have hit £15k given a month I'm sure. Amazing domain, can't believe I caught it, shows what happens with a bit of luck and only loading one name, not something I'm often able to do. Buyer is happy also which is a good thing, I'd love to try to be greedy but then I'd be setting myself up for a fall and end up with nothing.

Thanks again and yes will clear the bills for a bit, but a second wind of good fortune would help a lot more.

I'm still totally bewildered by this. I've sold thousands of domain names and would have valued this one at low £xxx.
The only explanation I can think of is that on Tuesday Lee is going to say 'April Fool'.

Everyone knows how you do business and you're quite content selling at £50 and £250. There's nothing average about this name, 20 million homes, three kitchen appliances minimum per house, renewed every three to five years, kitchen appliances all over the place with a search term of half a million broad, and 40,500 exact. Right place, right time, a lot of luck and maybe end of tax year. I'm not bewildered at all as I'm good at valuing domains, I'm only sorry I couldn't wait longer and hold out for £15k - that would have come. As to the domain, I wouldn't be surprised if it with website can be flipped for £40k or more in five years time.

Most aren't surprised at what it went for, just at how quick.

The domain was targeted towards end user businesses and many of these read this forum and the other. With a lot of gearing up for the new tax year and the need to "invest" to reduce taxation on non tangible assets it makes sense to buy before April 5th. It went to a good home.

Personally and it's nothing against anyone and the deal is all done now so no matter, But I think Colin had it spot on at low £xxx. That's what I would have put it down at.

With respect John I can't see people that read these forums paying that much for that name. Maybe people that don't read this forum and are in the kitchen industry, but not those that read these forums.

But if buyer and seller are happy then that's all that matters.

But as Lee said, he sent out 100+ emails. To people like Dixons, Boots, Ikea, etc. People who SELL Kitchen appliances. Those people don't need to read this forum.

I was expecting a big gun to come in at the end and scoop it up for £15k or so.

personally, I think it's worth £20k+ if you can sit on it and wait for retailers to fight it out
/get into gear!

Can you send me a list of everything you are selling for low £xxx ? ;-)

I agree with Steve, I'd say it was definately worth what Lee got for it, although I would add that he did well to get that much in such a short space of time.

I wonder how much the "big boys" spend on "Kitchen appliances" keywords on adwords and how much they could save on that bill with a domain that potentialy could get a page one organic listing.

My valuation was based on experience. Those companies listed are exactly the people who wouldn't be interested, because they want their brand in the domain name. For example DixonsKitchens (which is free to reg).

My experience is that the really valuable names are generics that are also sought after as a brand name.

To me reading this post is a contradiction, Surely KitchenAppliances is really valuable as it is a generic sought after to use as a brand name. The new company by the looks of it is ran by a domainer who is going to develop it. With the right business model it won't take long to sell x amount of kitchen appliances from it, pay off the £9.5k and still retain the asset of the domain. If there are so many offers of £8k etc floating about then call it a £1k cost to lease the domain for time you want to use it even if they didn't make the full amount back.
