the few registrars you can apply for are
a/ waste of space and sometimes not even holding page or wrong url
b/ very expensive c/ won't accept 1 or 2 characters lol when using search function

http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/aboutdomainnames/reserved/registrars/

most are waste of time. try

i see this at top;

Please note: As this process is outside of our normal domain name registration, some registrars may not be able to process applications to register these previously restricted domain names automatically through their websites.

If you have any problems registering a short domain automatically, please contact the registrar directly using the contact details on their website to express your interest in your required domain name. They will then be able to process your application manually.

can you apply direct to nominet or a decent registrar that charges normal 2 year fees before the nom fee?

who are people using? i am going to apply for a few i think

The Namesco fees...
The application fee for a reserved .uk domain name is, £80.00 plus VAT and this is non-refundable. Successful applications will be subject to a £76.00 registration fee and an annual renewal charge of £73.00 (plus VAT). Please be advised this costing is per domain and is based on 0-25 domains being held under the managed service,

Domain Monster are saying that they will be accepting applications, but no info yet.

Any registrar can apply for them, the ones listed on that page are those that have asked to be listed as they have removed any restrictions that may have previously not allowed these domains to be reg'd through their systems.

i checked a few of the bigger co's on that list Grant and they don't allow you to search for 1 or 2 characters

some of the smaller co's ie domainers, have the wrong url or doesn't even resolve properly or have no information or contact details

you would think one registrar would have got it's act together to allow applications, and nominet would have checked the list of so called registrars before listing them

how do you know which domains have had someone apply for ????

lol, sounds about right. All registrars can apply whether they're on that list or not, just done one myself. The process is totally different from a normal registration though so I can't see too many big registrars re-coding their systems to allow for what will be a smallish number of registrations.

I've processed a few for customers, this is outside "normal" processing, so have done a manual process, however, looking at the figures quoted in previous posts, I should perhaps up the fees a little :)

Hmm, maybe they're now only showing the people who've gone through and paid the £10 + Vat.

I saw you had applied for it when clicking your link earlier, then when Dot posted above it's now showing as not applied for.

Can we not apply for these short domains from within our own Nominet tag accounts?

Ah, quite possibly...

Must have changed it in the last hour as before then it was showing everyone who had applied in real-time. Some of them are quite amusing, Limited companies applying for .me.uk's... tut tut :)

Just checked, it is a case that the applicants now only appear in whois once the application is paid for unlike earlier.

Fooking comical, been telling the world that they're going to open up these domains, yet loads of people can't use their normal registrars. Roll over Nominet, I can't wait for you to be a government department, which will be some day soon the way this is going to go.

Every registrar can apply, you can't really blame Nominet if registrars haven't made it possible!!

How can registrars apply through Nominet, is it just a case of creating a record in the 'Web Domain Manager' as per normal domains?

Also, when are the application fees payable or when is the deadline? (Only asking as I notice someone above commented that some domains aren't showing in the WHOIS as the fees haven't been paid yet).

Cheers

They apply through the automaton or epp as usual. The process changes after that though compared to regular registartions.
