Thought I would start a sticky thread here for the London Olympics 2012.

Does anyone have tickets? What are you going to see? How many medals do your think we will win this time?

7 Years of planning since it was announced and on the first attempt they show the wrong Korean flag - someone didn't do their homework:

Good luck to all the athletes!

Seen the football yesterday and there were a lot of empty seats, those tickets should have been handed out to schools.

applied for a few. But, didn't get any. THEN my heart skipped a beat yesterday when I saw there were still some tickets left for the opening ceremony (i'm only 40 miles away from the Site)

Had me Credit card already on my desk, Then fell-off me chair

£1,500 to £2,050 per ticket, available - WITH a RESTRICTED VIEW

They taken a unique once in a life time occasion that the entire country has invested in and rather use it as a platform to pull the country together, to send out the message the people and the athletes come first, have instead used it for naked profiteering and that includes on the issue of security, and a platform to further divide people from different social and economic backgrounds.

So incompetent are these people that we have flame holders advertising their torches on eBay for 60k a pop, when every penny of any sold torch should go on the UK Olympic sporting legacy or to local charities. These are the little clues that at the top end the snouts are so firmly in the trough there's little scope for them to cover the unimportant things like making sure the little people are happy with it all, that every penny and every penny there to be earned goes towards moral and worthy causes and sending out the message nice and clear what the Olympics and UK are all about.

It's all about profiting off taxpayers, private profits and public debts. The greatest security weapon against terror is the eyes and ears of the general public, and to get that to the fullest extent you must have them onside, instead the twats at the top have gone the corporate route which is lets spend [taxpayers] our way to 'security', such that our mates in the private sector can walk away with 50% margins off guaranteed zero risk contracts.

On the plus side, every so called 'people's celebs' like Beckham and co have also been shown up for what they are, self interested only profiteers. Not one of them has spoken up, they've all towed the line like the little aristocrats the clearly aspire to be.

Cameron's speech yesterday was classic political speak. The Olympics are going to be 'profitable' he says. What he leaves out is profitable for me and my mates, not profitable for the general public.

I'm pretty sure if you can manage to do all of that then what you've got in store for the country once the Games are over and done with is little short of a nightmare. Enjoy the tournament, love sport I do, but the big payback comes after all the international cameras and mics have got on their planes and flown home.

So how many did you buy?

These Prices are probably aimed at tourists or the elite rich average non millionaire can get lost by the looks of it

Whilst I agee with you a 100% WakinDude - Bit hard to be anti - profitering when we're in the Domain Game.

And with all that supporting infrastucture that we get "technically" speaking for free. No I was just hoping for a standard priced "premier-football" ticket price. Bit like the Domain end user that says "WHATTTT !!!" at a an expected £7 domain price.

Denied the other half an amazing-looking chocolate cake called 'Olympic Cookie' yesterday on the basis that he couldn't eat a trademark violation.

He was extremely unimpressed.

Domainers as far as I'm aware use their own private money, those successful need to be skilled, and any profits especially nowadays [not the heady days when you could register menu.com, and immediately start searching for your retirement island], is thoroughly earned.

Big difference between that an oh look i'm the second cousin of the minister for Department X and by sheer coincidence i'm in the front of the queue for a xmillions Tax Payer funded contract which I will immediately subcontract to the proper professionals for xmillions/2, with due diligence and thorough auditing being put aside to erm 'save money'.

Olympics sold on cost basis of £2.4billion, final bill £9billion, private funding supposed to raise 50% of final bill but instead has raised approx a 10%, rest funded by UK tax payers, who will be arrested and jailed if they happen to even point their phone cameras in the wrong direction.

There are plenty of people who will have paid the £499 to keep their torch. Should they all be priced at £60k, so the torchbearer can't buy it?

Okay they could have had some kind of contract to say no to a resale, but if someone is mental enough to pay £60k for one, then I'm sure they'd find a way around it. Sporting memorabilia is sold every day of the week, so why should different rules apply to the Olympics?

lol

close thread now we won't see a better comment :D

In fairness to the football pricing, I think it's quite reasonable. An adult ticket is £20 and kids pay their age, which includes two games of international football. So for me to go with my two eldest kids is £34. You would easily pay that for one adult to go to one premiership game.

I believe they have handed out a number of tickets to events such as the football to local kids - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-18782739

What?

The torchbearers are free to sell their torches, which they had to pay for, for whatever they want.

You have to have security for events like these, and all large scale security operations are done this way.

On the plus side, every so called 'people's celebs' like Beckham and co have also been shown up for what they are, self interested only profiteers. Not one of them has spoken up, they've all towed the line like the little aristocrats the clearly aspire to be.

He was asked to help promote the Olympic Games, which he is doing. Whats the problem?

Cameron's speech yesterday was classic political speak. The Olympics are going to be 'profitable' he says. What he leaves out is profitable for me and my mates, not profitable for the general public.

He is a politician so I don't see why you are so surprised. Its not profitable for Cameron personally. In fact its his job to do his utmost to promote the UK during the games window.

I'm pretty sure if you can manage to do all of that then what you've got in store for the country once the Games are over and done with is little short of a nightmare. Enjoy the tournament, love sport I do, but the big payback comes after all the international cameras and mics have got on their planes and flown home.

OK here's an idea, lets not host the Olympic Games at all. Or better still you could move to Iran where you don't need to worry about any of these pesky capitalist activities.

I must say the dreadful negative British attitude really does grind me down. Its the Olympics for gods sakes, its an honour to host these games, its regenerated a huge and largely derelict part of London, its great publicity for the UK and it showcases our country in the international business community, not to mention many direct and indirect economic benefits.

Its a good thing, really, it is.

Well said. Gold medal for you!

I am not talking about the pricing, it just seems that there is a lack of interest in these games so why not give away the tickets for the empty seats.

Looks better on tv, they might spend some money in the stadium and it's a once in a lifetime experience.

Anyone seen this documentary last Tuesday? Quite enjoyed it, hope he does well during the Olympics, he's a bit of a nutcase but seems to have a true fighter mentality.

A bigger misinterpretation of my post would be hard to find. Do you even know what Capitalism is, or are you another that confuses it with crony capitalism which is what we actually have.

Was very happy UK got the Olympics, very disappointed with it's implementation. It's turned into little more than another giant foot on the necks of UK taxpayers, whilst being sold as the exact opposite, ala bailouts, pfi and the rest of it. That's the thrust of my post.

I was indifferent until I started watching the back stories of the athletes, I must confess I am now hooked and am not embarrassed to admit it!

I can see past the political arguments and simply look forward to the ups and downs of the games. There are so many young people poised to benefit from the infrastructure, training facilities and general uplifting effect that I don't care who paid for it rather the effects of it are what matters. It is only a short time ago that London was being torn apart and burnt to the ground; look at it now. I accept there are still plenty of problems in society but a little bit of escapism is good for the psyche so it gets a thumbs up from me.

Worth adding AGAIN, event sold to UK public as £2.4 billion cost, with private sector paying half.

Eventual reality £9billion and less than £1billion from private sector yet they get all the eventual profits.

£6.6 billion over budget. £.2 billion less than expected from private sector. Grand total of at least £6.8 billion extra funding from UK taxpayers who are simultaneously being hammered in the employment market, wage suppression and services cut.

Now in a booming economy I'd honestly say I wouldn't care, Olympics after all. Just find it interesting this money was found out of the tax coffers, whilst same time people are getting their benefits cut, libraries are closing down, and support services being cut back for those most in need.

Aegean.

Under capitalism, private sector pays for everything and reaps all profits. This is more private profits public liabilities, but since it won't be disturbing your life in any way not a problem really is it.
