Hi,

I have allot of experience when it comes to deciphering the quality of an expired domain and purchase many in large volumes, so much so that I'm now thinking it's time to up my game and cut out the middle man and instead catch the domains myself.

That's surely easier said than done but either way I would like to ask the question and advice from others on the forum as to how I should go about it? At this moment in time I haven't the foggiest but if anyone does or has any tutorials please point me in the right direction.

I have tried googling already but just end up with lists of other drop catchers.

This is actually quite simple

Open a connection to the DAC
Open a connection to the EPP
do
{
stuff in a domain name to the DAC
IF not registered status
{
stuff an EPP Create
}
}
while count catch_list > 0

How you implement the actual code is down to you, but this is the process, there is no secret to the process.

There are lots of secrets in how the code is actually implemented though and you'll not get much help on this :) You'll need to understand how to do low level network programming in order to get the best out of the system.

Thanks

Thank you for the code, admittedly it means nothing to me personally but I do employ a coder (who's also a good friend).

How do you actually go about querying Nominet, do they have an samples on this procedure?

Please put in laymen terms the procedure if possible so i can relay back to my coder, it will be a new area to them also.

  1. You need to become a Nominet registrar.
  2. Then a Nominet member.
  3. Sign up for DAC access
  4. Sign up for EPP access
  5. Write your software to catch domains :)

All the fees combined for all the above are around £600-700 including VAT.

Then again drop catching is really really competitive, there's no guarantee you'll ever make back your costs in terms of fees, development and effort. It's very much like a lottery unless you figure out some kind of trick or exploit that has happened in the past.

There are technical details of the DAC & EPP on the Nominet registrars site, your coder should be able to work it out. It is not the level of code to be undertaken by a layman, so if this is case you probably would be better off looking to be renting a system.

Thanks allot Dave!

The main reason I wish to go it alone is to catch more domains for myself, I use them in my Private Blog Networks, paying upwards of £30 for each site presently means I'm paying well over the £600 - £700 fees mentioned.
