At last face masks compulsory, common sense prevails.

I now wonder how a 4 month break in habits will effect the future of many peoples way of life.
Anyone who has overcome an addiction will know how this works, there is a tendency when a load
is lightened to not go back to where you were.

Police are exempt...like they have been to all the CV rules. Doesn't seem to have affected them disproportionately. Good luck trying to fine people for not wearing one...whilst not wearing one. Is this purely designed to foster contempt?

So why introduce the wearing of masks now? When a. they can do more harm than good, and b. their effectiveness is minimal at best?

I tend to agree on masks. I know culturally it's alien, but there's a growing body of evidence that it makes a difference. Keeping the infection rate low is paramount because once it's high (see Florida) and hospitals are full, outside of another lockdown which no-one wants, infection rates remain high.

I do feel sorry for the highstreet though. As Murray says it's suffering, and was anyway. No doubt Amazon and co are on cloud nine, but that's just a shuffling of money to corporations. I'm doing my best to support local businesses now. I've not stopped doing anything I did prior, just trying to sensible and considerate about it in the process.

I have some n95 masks. I think all of these things take some getting used to (since it's alien to me to wear one) but after I while it's something that you don't really give a second thought to. It's a polarising issue I know, but we're always learning more, and I'd rather wear one and find out that it makes less of a difference than I thought, than not bother and wonder how many people I've helped bump people off. It's not much of an inconvenience so I just get on with it where appropriate.

I'd guess there is probably a fair difference between medical masks and just cloth ones

I don't think it probably matters for for the 15 minutes max you're likely to spend in a shop though

Your 2nd sentence is exactly right. If you don't want to wear a mask, stay away from enclosed public spaces. Simple.

I just wonder the effect on individuals who all of a sudden see the change of routine has maybe had a beneficial effect on their lives, health, outlook and well being and will not go back to where they were before the lockdown.

But how they're going to? I couldn't predict a % of jobs loss because of lockdown but I reckon it's going to very very high by the end of the year

A second lockdown would put the lid on the coffin. Almost anything is now better than a second lockdown over the lucrative Christmas period. Trying not to be controversial so as to not let the trolls jump on the thread.
