Thats a fair bit of electric for two people to use in a quarter. Thats what its telling me when I goto my account at house.co.uk (british gas). Ive looked at the meter readings and they all tie up

We only moved here 3 years ago and this meter looks pretty new.. surely this meter must be f****d.

But if there really is something in my house eating that much I'd better find it and remove it. God knows what the missies has been doing whilst ive been out :p

The thing is I have alot of electronic gear. Like a 32u rack full of computers, and a quad on quad PC setup, stacks of guitars and electronic drum kits blah blah.. So many people come round and say.. "Damn, bet your electric bill is big!" I just smile. But its not that big

£3567.75, Im wondering if they have never read the meter properly since we moved here and this has accumulated over the last 3 years. As ive yet to recieve a bill via the snail i'm going to monitor how much the meter moves over the next few days and see if I can workout my daily average.

Hmm... That is a *lot* of computers - maybe £3 grand isn't so far off the mark!

Will be interesting to see what your daily average check shows.

You must have 3 years of historical data so is it hugely different quarter on quarter?
Can it be explained by any of the following:
1/ electricity prices have risen (alot 20% or more I think)
2/ Have you switched or been switched to a different supplier
3/ have any bonus rate offers ended (check past bills for price per watt etc)
4/ have you caught many more domains this month (must be using more power!)
5/ something munching too much power - power supplies, fans not working?, chips overclocked, leaving your guitar on,
6/ some sort of short circuit somewhere
7/ new kit that you've installed.
8/ running heater in garage all the time

I have 7 pcs running and the bill is less than/about a hundred per month.

Good luck finding it.

You've not got a tanning shop either below or next door to your place, by chance, have you? ;) If so, we might be onto something... :-D

The cannabis factory next door stealing your current?

If you are with Powergen this may explain it................

EDP Story:

Powergen is sending out backdated bills

01 May 2006 09:33

Thousands of Powergen customers could face backdated electricity bills because of errors when they switched energy supplier, it was revealed yesterday.

Those likely to be affected are customers who were formerly served by TXU Energi in the east of England - which Powergen took over in 2002.

"In the vast majority of cases where there's an error we're talking about less than two years. We're not saying every (TXU) customer hasn't had a bill for two years," he said.

The company is now examining the accounts transferred from TXU in a bid to work out exactly how many customers are affected.

"We're contacting customers as we look at these accounts and we are asking customers to contact us. Customers are being dealt with on a case-by-case basis to work out a payment plan and discuss rates. Compensation will be considered," he added.

It is not the first time Powergen customers have been faced with major billing problems, prompting thousands of complaints to Energywatch - the industry watchdog.

Six months ago, the EDP reported that Powergen was coming under fire after hundreds of people received massively inflated bills.

One Norfolk woman was charged nearly £60,000 for gas that would normally cost £70 a quarter while a couple from Loddon received regular bills for a business on the third floor of their property - despite having only a two-storey cottage

Hahahaha and theres me getting upset over £3,500 !

Bet she could of sued them if she was brown bread after a heart attack :p

Nahh.. Im with British Gas who supply both my electric and gas. I did install a heated electric floor in my kitchen at the end of last summer and Ive got this fat APC UPS that takes 3 ppl to lift.. gonna go check those out before I contact them.

I would say a three and a half grand bill is within the realms of possibility. FYI my electricity bill is normally around £70 a quarter! I think you better do something about it otherwise the government will decide nuclear power is a good idea again. Plus by the sound of it, we'll all be under water with global warming if you don't take action.

Oh yeah, and switch to LCD TVs instead of plasmas, they use much less power.

All the best

What a bummer, looks like I really do owe £3500.

Based upon my last 24 hours worth of juice I should be paying about £100 a month.

Now, Ive been through my online account and found my past history. Would seem Ive had an estimated bill for the last 2.5 years. Would also seem my estimate was based on the previous owners usage and as he spent most of his time living abroad he's electric consumption wasent alot.

Thing is since we've been here I can think of atleast 6 times someones come round to read the meter.. what the hell where they reading?

Think I'll phone them up, tell them I'm broke and ask to pay £10 a month towards it :p

I'm sure they'll accept spread payments, and I reckon it's worth trying it on for compensation about their mistake for not reading meter properly etc. You wouldn't have kept your heating on if you'd known (etc.etc!)
