i have sold a ".com" and done the push through 123-reg but the whois is still showing me as the owner? am i missing something?

Yes, a "push" just moves the domain from one account to another, but it does nothing to change the legal ownership of a domain, you need to go through the full transfer procedure (fully electronic for the .com) to get the WHOIS changed.

On Dynadot, when a .com or .info domain is pushed to another users account, it automatically shows the registrant details of the person who the domain has been pushed to.

Not sure what gave you that idea but that's simply not the case. A push should change ownership when it comes to .com or any of the gTLDs. There isn't a need to go through the full transfer procedure and there shouldn't be any costs involved.

The new owner should just be able to update the contact details via his/her 123-reg control panel. Failing that, email 123-reg.

123-reg aren't ICANN accredited by the way – they reseller for Tucows, a US registrar. 123-reg might need to get in touch with them to resolve the issue (if the above method fails).
