I've just done a speed test and I'm at 4.34Mb/s today, I'm usually about 6.5Mb/s, my router internet light is constantly flashing, things seem to be a bit sluggish, maybe it's the cold weather lol. :???:

Who you with?
There are issues with a major part of the way the uk traffic flows but it depends on your provider if they have enough cover if this particular peer can be shut down and they cope.

I'm with Zen. I can always switch to the old Vodafone Mobile Broadband if it gets too bad though.

Rgds

Zen shouldn't be badly affected by this issue so sounds like its something different.

I would chew your right arm off for 4.3Mb/s!!!

My ADSL line hits about 300Kb/s on a good day! Because of that I only use it as a backup and run on mobile broadband but even that only reaches approx 2.5Mb/s! And even then the upload speed is about 10K so I have to switch to the ADSL when uploading!

Keep the noise down Chris! :)

No problems in that department, though the electricity did cut out a couple of times. Grr. Must be the weather.

I'm on BT broadband, not sure what is a good speed, but doing a speedtest gives these results, click the image to test your own speed:

Things are a bit better now:

Now I've got a fast connection I'd find it hard to live without it!!

Rich,
Give me a shout if you want something better. I would put a pound on I can get you up to at least 1Mbps.
I get 1.5Mbps down and 480Kbps up on a line which BT say can only support 512Kbps down 256Kbps up. The advantages of running a proper network :D

Three Mobile Broadband:

BT Total Broadband:

Check out those BT results! Twice the speed of a 56K dial up modem - bring it on!

The problem with my ADSL connection is the cabling from the road to my house, difficult to rectifywhen it is a buried line, and not insulated or run in duct, just a cable in the dirt!

Have pity on me!

You may be surprised. You will never get great speeds but some tweaking of your sessions on the DSLAM will get you better speeds.

BT and the like wont do this as its not their business model to charge more and provide a better service ;)

It's a long way to come to get it, but there's pretty good connectivity in Tokyo :)

Technically speaking, that's not that good for Japan! :p

But seriously, all credit to the Japanese. They've always taken the issue of FTTH more seriously than any other country, and it shows. They're streets ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to passive optical networks, and everyone benefits from it.

I'm cheap. I could upgrade a notch to FTTH speeds (160Mbps) with our current provider without changing anything except the billing, but my connection seems "fast enough" so I haven't bothered.
