Hi all,

I just reactivated my lovefilm account so am looking for some movie recommendations.

Any one seen anything good lately new or old?

Cheers

Ergh, I signed up for lovefilm on the PS3. Pretty poor selection of films for the on demand section, Also don't try watching anything at peak times had major problems. My internet speeds are fine so must be lovefilm.

Chopper, A Clockwork Orange. Both on the on demand section.

'boy in the striped pyjamas'
not going to give anything away, i love ww2 films anyway and very interested in the whole era but after you have watched will feel like mike tyson just punched you as hard as he can in the stomach, which is not a nice feeling, but very thought provoking and moving
zero gore

I'm not much of a movie buff but a few films I've recently watched and enjoyed are 25th Hour (Edward Norton - you can't go wrong when he's in a film), The Departed and The Girl in the Park.

Thanks although i only use the postal service as i have a xbox and lovefilm is not on there yet.

Yep they are both good films.

I'm into really old British rubbish, so I'm recommending a couple of old Ealing comedies -
Dry Rot, and
The Lavender Hill Mob.

They are funny, and funnier because they are dated ...

I watched 'Bullshot' the other week - hadn't seen it since I was a kid. I probably enjoyed it more for the nostagia, but I still enjoyed it. Bit of a cult film -follows the adventures of Hugh 'Bullshot' Crummand against the evil Von Bruno; once arch enemies as pilots in WW1.

Anyone else ever seen it?

I watched this, felt exactly the same..

Some of my favourites are Cape Fear (Robert DeNiro) and The Shining (Jack Nicholson,

If you like mob movies, 'Casino' and 'Goodfellas' are two of the best ever made. I expect you've seen them though. 'Heat' with Pacino and De Niro is also a class act.

Thanks i have seen Casino and GoodFellas.

Not sure i have seen Heat so will add it to the list.

Cheers

Another film like this is 'The Road'... Although it's not zero gore - I got incredibly drawn into the film when I watched it.

Other newer films that are on my 'definitely watch list' are:

Man on Fire
The Hurt Locker
I am Legend
The Dark Knight
Seven Pounds

And some slightly older absolute classics:

Shawshank Redemption
Schindlers List
American History X
Leon
Full Metal Jacket
Good Will Hunting

Hope you find something in there that you like!

Rich

Very well done movie, done the book justice. Fine book to read.

One of my favourite movies is Papillon with Steve McQeen. I read the book by Henri Charriere long before seeing the movie. Both are really good.
There is also a follow up book by Henri Charriere called Banco.
All based on a true story.

That's the mark of a good film isn't it, when it lives upto the book. Reading the book lets you imagine it the way you think it should be - often the film can be a let down after.

It's not often the film lives up to the book, but in this case it did. I suppose having legends like McQueen and Hoffman in the movie can't hurt :)
I used this book as a basis for my choice Higher Grade English project (A level in Engerland) and the compulsory project was on Death of a Salesman.. Hoffman connection in both :)
