just wondering if someone can tell me roughly how many lll.org.uk are left

thanks

Ask Admin if he can run a scan when he does his drop list post later.

There are only 16k either way.

They still drop daily too.

If this was name'pros' / dnforum etc a quest would be to INVEST and organise a BUY OUT!

:)

Yep, I would suggest everyone grabs a handful each as I expect the good ones to be all snapped up soon.
I'm receiving offers for lll.org.uk's so they are being considered by businesses already. Not high offers, but I'm sure they will increase in time.

Grabbed Auz.co.uk and a mates initals etc

Not sure about grabbing stuff, there is a reason why 9000 out of 17,000 are free to register rather.

A small wary speculation punt maybe, but dont go mad chaps, you have to pay for these and the renewals!

But its the UK and a massive difference.

US population 304 million
UK population 61 million

If we were comparing org to org.uk, In the US alone (although .org has a world wide appeal) there is 5 times the buying power and more importantly, 5 times more potential customers for the same number of domains.

It would cost £40K to slurp up that lot. I let 30 of mine go back into the pot 3 months ago.

I don't think there is a strong enough market for them. I do think there is for generics, but I think lll's is a different kettle of fish.

I bought 80 of them. In 2 years i've had one offer. It came from a charity. They asked me how much, I said £250 and they said they hoped to get it for £50 max. After a 2 minute google, I found out it was the same charity that had just been gifted £1 million pounds from Terry Pratchett 2 weeks before!

Has there been any significant sales of them?

Especially if you're prone to forgetting you registered.org.uk and not .co.uk ;)

To save you cherry pickers the trouble:

wsj wall street journal
vjv Voyages Jules Verne
jjb sports stores
rfp request for proposal
jux record label
ijt inkjet cartridges
oka furniture store
cdw CD Wow

If its of any use to anyone, and will certainly save a lot of time manually doing it, HERE you can download a partial list (only got upto as far as mid G's) of all 3 letter LLL's with archive.org history. Unfortunately its not foolproof, as some of the pages aren't accessible anymore, and the number of pages archived is not really a good measure of how important the previous websites (if any) actually were. I normally put it into 'detail' view and start with the largest files first.

I'm going to continue doing the rest of the list and will post up the rest afterwards. If in the meantime anyone wants the small app. I had written to scrape archive.org then feel free to download it HERE. Some of you will perhaps remember it from a long time ago, others may not, feel free to make use if it, ask any questions via PM if you need operational instructions.

Cheers

Dave
