Hello

As some of you will have seen from the banner ads appearing on Acorn, we have today launched Droppr - a hosted DAC/EPP dropcatching service for Nominet members.

Droppr combines a powerful web based control panel with a speedy dropcatching script.

You can find full details and screenshots on the website.

Key features are:

- Bulk uploading of domain lists or add individual domains
- Ratio system so high-priority domains are queried more often than low-priority domains
- Priority system allowing for domains to be queried in a specific order or several at a time
- Variable query rates across the day, configurable in advance - “set and forget”
- Plan your dropcatching weeks or even months in advance
- Full logs from dropcatching script provided
- Integrated bulk DAC query system
- Email alerts when domains drop

Please get in touch if you want to know more

Not sure if its just me but I cannot view the screenshot gifs properly?

Not clear at all.

can you pm or post some successfull catches you have had over the past say month or so.

FAQs

If it’s so good, impress me with a list of domain names that it has caught.
Client confidentiality is important to us (and our clients) - we are not able to publically disclose this information. Read our testimonials to hear what our clients think about our service.

Much like Dale's setup. The reputation of the guys behind Droppr is very good so no reason to doubt what they say.

There's so much competition thesedays even a top setup & being within farting distance of Nominet's servers guarantees you nothing but a bad smell!

Recently I've been using my DAC quota partly for development/testing and partly on hammering a small number of suspended names out of the normal cycle (that are still suspended). So I've caught nothing interesting recently using Droppr.

I understand your question and I'm sure there will be scepticism, but without breaking client confidentiality I can't tell you the domains that our customer has caught with it.

It's a common problem

Agreed - the competition is such these days that it's pretty much a numbers game with Lady Luck playing her part.

im sure bb9 has a good reputaition, so has dell or HP but there systems still fail. The competiton is getting stronger now. Also just because people say i have a catching system we all should ashume they will get us the prime domains everyone is watching? it is luck ( as you should know rob ) so if people offering a catching service these days must show some success.

I cant think of a hosted catching system that does offer examples of successful catches, can you?

http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/drop-...38105-one-day-target-50-catches-achieved.html as per your questions in that thread ;)

That was July last year and Dale's system still going very strong, likewise Chris Bowlers et al.

The WHOIS tells a story, but not always whos running the system behind it and people often value that privacy.

It's a tricky issue - and I knew it would arise very quickly. We've stated our position in the FAQs and that's all we can say for now.

If that means that any potential customer doesn't want to deal with us, so be it. It's a harsh world out there :(

i was waiting for the quoted threads :)

it isnt about who has a good reputation or who is a top domainer it is about spending money on a system to get a good chance of catching a domain name that everyone is after, you off all people should know this so there is no point in reply with your quotes from threads etc as they just make you look stupid (ask other domainers), you wouldnt spend £15k on a car that you havent had a test drive would you so what im saying is even thought i know you on acorn and you have just opened a catching service why should i use yours when i know (from other domainers btw) that dales system is
pretty good.

I think it is entirely about who has a good reputation, as thats very much key to deciding if to spend money or not. There are people who's opinion I would trust enough to base spending £15k on, and others who I wouldnt :)

My point was you went over this before with Dale's service, and this new service has an FAQ stating the answer to your question. The lack of public information about Dales' system has not prevented you forming a positive opinion, so why should it in this case :)

Not sure if that makes me stupid or not - the information is out there, just a case of you wanting to read it or not, or talking to the right 'domainers' ;)

It isn't a car :)

We've put enough information on the website to cover why we think people will like it and/or want to use it. None of us have seen or used the competing services - all we know is what's on their public facing websites - so it's hard to make comparisons and say why you should use Droppr over another system.

im talking to the most trusted domainers.

so bmw has 10 cars on the forecourt, all have good reputaion and look great, 1 is cheaper than the rest and has just been parked there that day. just because it is cheaper i should assume it is just as good as the rest of them?

My point is nobody is going to use a new system without seeing results, simple as. dales system now has a good reputaion as over time all the domainers i have spoken to have recomended him 99% so if i was going to use a catching service he would be the place at the moment. but if a new catching system comes along and cant show results now ( due to customer privacy which is totally understandable) then i would rather wait a few months until the word of mouth gets it know. so it is a question of A: show results now then i can decide if i want to put my money into a new system or B: use other wel know systems for now until the good feedback comes along. I think 99% of catchers on here will go with B.

Fully understand your position Paul - such are the benefits of the free market.

I guess an easier question to answer would be, without disclosing other users info is... Have you personally caught any domains yourself using this system, if so, what are they?

Just trying to simplify.

It does seem to be a chicken and egg situation for you :)

Again if people had stuck with the view as you shared last July then there would not be a reputation to build or repeat as no one would be using the system so by that manner 99% of catchers would lose out.

Owen and Dale are both no-nonsense types and very good at respecting their clients privacy and provide a great service.
I have no doubt both systems will do well, and the competition will make things even better for users.

Personally I find being in the 1% who takes a well judged risk rewards well and is much more fun :)
