Ok for the few past weeks or maybe even month or two now, during a few log-ins into my Sedo account I have managed to catch a glimpse of Logo.com listed on their homepage as open to offers and on each occasion I have thought to myself “Wow I wonder how much that will end up going for, surely its around $1.5m”. It is now news that it has been sold for only $500k!

Surely I can’t be the only one in thinking that this is way too low for this domain and the buyer got an absolute steal of a bargain!?? Ok, so it’s not really an everyday product to all but its Short, Generic, Catchy and has Piles of potential!! Actually thinking about it, why the hell did the owner not have it developed out !!!!!!!!

Is anyone else also feeling that this should have had a reserve of at least $1m or more?...

What would you have been happy with receiving in order to part with such a once in a lifetime domain? Mines $1.5m

Thoughts please! :D

I think the seller got an excellent price. I wouldn't have expected it to sell for anywhere near what it did.

agree with Rob
unless they can build a site with traffic and a hardcore base of designers/freelancers, and paying customers, i think they'll do well to ever get their money back
great domain but overpriced if anything imho
give me $500k and i'll buy 5 better domains

I guess it depends who bought it. Let us not forget that our shitty olympics logo cost us £400,000 :). Big money involved in that industry.

I think it's one of those domains where, if you have a strong idea & foundation of what you could do with it, then it's well worth the money. Particularly if the buyer has a related company to back it up.

Then again I'm converting it to pounds, which makes it seem much cheaper :p Still more than the cost of my house though!

Yes a lot of people think it's shit but almost everyone misses why the logo has been formed in this way. It has the word ZION encoded in it in plain view. Read the logo as two vertical columns instead of two horizontal rows.

Why else would a short 4 character logo be split over two lines? The 2's have been formed in a jagged manner so that they can be a Z and an N - the second 2 has been rotated 45% so that it can simlutaneously get away with passing for an N, but still officially be a 2. The 1 would pass for an 'i' anyway, but it even has a dot above it confirming this!

That's a terrible logo, sorry to say.

Logo.com for $500k - good deal for both parties I think.

that olympics logo is the most hidoeus logo i ever saw
got a link to why/how they on earth paid that figure for?
in this day and age they should have run a competition to have designed by someone british and the prize was your design won, that would be the prize. no money

plus i bet if they run a competition in schools it would have got some brilliant entries, prob would have won it

i remember years back the tories paid stupid money for their logo xxx,xxx range and got blasted for it, thought people had learned

whats worse is the olympics logo is possibly the most hideous i have ever seen, seriously its awful LOL

Actually maybe this would make sense.. ???

When i got a few logos designed a while back for a few of my companies that i own i claimed their FULL cost back as an 'essential business expense' :D

Now it would be possible that some cheeky chap who works 'high up' at the marketing team levels now wants a logo doing for their UK olympic event marketing. He gets his 'friends' 'logo design' agency to do a logo with a price tag of the aforementioned £400k then shitty design accepted, deal goes through!

This cheeky chap gets a back hander from his 'friends' design agency.. and the olympic marketing dept gets to claim this whopping amount back through tax anyway as an 'essential business expense' everyones wins hey?? apart from the UK tax fund that is.. lol

Now the normal tax that has to be paid anyway regarding the olympic generated revenues would be a pretty big amount i would imagine so £400k relief for a logo isnt really that much of an expense being claimed back as afterall it is a pretty essential requirement to have a logo for this event..

Ive known this to happen for real (wouldnt be able to mention any names as i cant remeber their names :p) but £70k did change hands lol.

Fred has a £1m tax bill this year, pays his friends company owned by Jim £70k for a nice logo.. Fred gets a tax back on his logo cost as he submits the reciepts to his accountant.. Jim pays the tax on his £70k logo revenue and with whats left does a spilt to Mr good old Fred ;) ;) kerchinggggg :)

If Jim is in the higher tax bracket too, there is no saving to be had (unless he intends to do some tax fraud and simply not pay it).

If Jim isn't in the higher tax band, and tries to put an invoice through for a single logo he got paid £70k to design, then both Jim and Fred can look forward to a tax investigation.

Unless Jim legitimately owned a large design agency in a country with lower tax than UK this would need to remain a fairy tale sadly.

They did and the logo for the bid was the thames loop in the olympic 5 colours with the rings - which I thought looked infititely better than the sh1te that we're left with.... what a laughing stock.... except for the logo company who pocketed some simple cash

I bet they got some street artist to do that for nothing too....

Yeah Frog 'Jim' went through voluntary insolvency way before the end of the tax year ;) 'apparantly for 'numerous reasons' :) lmao

Jim & Fred should move to Prague, problem solved. 15% flat tax rate :)
