You've got to love this - another example of the utter lameness of .tel and the people that run it.

This is a Telnic press release proudly announcing a new BT service so customers can use a .tel domain to "streamline their contact information".

You can find out more about how great .tel is at bt.com/tel. :D Right.

Not only that, but guess who owns BT.tel?

Why it's Telnic of course, they haven't released the domain to BT.

^ this with bells on

.Tel is .crap

Just a quick point of clarification - Telnic doesn't own bt.tel, ICANN does. ICANN has restricted the sale of .tel domains to three characters only at this time.

Thanks,

I'd assumed that since Telnic were listed in Whois as the Registrant for BT.tel with a registration date etc that it was Telnic's decision to withhold, rather than ICANN's - missed pendingcreate. My mistake.

I can see how it is confusing using pendingcreate - it's basically assigned to Telnic in order to prevent it from being listed as an option in Registrars lookups. This is a restriction placed on all TLDs by ICANN, some of whom have recently managed to re-negotiate with ICANN to release one- and two-character domains. This is something that Telnic is currently investigating.
