Online UK Domain Tools - Seemly.co.uk

It's been a while since my last update.

Yesterday a fellow Acorn member flagged an issue with the bulk whois displaying an error when attempting to export CSV of the results.
This has now been fixed and confirmed by the reporter.

If any of you spot any other issues elsewhere, I'd really appreciate the heads up, and I will look to fix it.

I'd say very up to date, it's not instant as I'm sure it's done manually but it's decent.

It's pretty much all automated, so should be pretty good at being up to date.
There are checks throughout the day via various triggers.

Because of the automation, discovering reported sales via unstructured content like that found on dnjournal can be missed.
Periodically fellow acorners will post recent sales posts that I will quickly search using the tool. If it's not in the DB I add it manually.

@seemly Sorry to bump this, but do you ever implement the RSS feed for recent sales? Would be really handy and is something I'm looking for right now.

I haven't, because the last 18 months or so has been something that I can only describe as "not ideal".

I have also been working on a new project for the last few weeks (totally unrelated to domains).

When that is complete I "might" re-build seemly as an application in it's entirety, so an RSS feed might be a feature. But in all honesty it's not really something that inspires much motivation these days, as it kinda works as it is and rebuilding it doesn't really add any benefit (to me).

Adding something like an RSS feed would just make it super easy for a competitor to just hijack the compiling of data I gather. Most of the traffic I get is for the bulk whois tool, so I may decide to restrict access to that based on a tiered membership system.

The problem is there isn't much of a market out there for me to monetise, and most domainers are cheap-skates anyway (myself included) :p

I get that. If you do rebuild, perhaps you could have some sort of API under a tiered membership where you have a set quota of requests for data or something.

Seemly, you're doing a really excellent job. I only recently got wind of your service, but it's an invaluable tool to UK domain professionals and a one that I've started using as a part of my "toolbox". Much respect for your work, it is much appreciated.

With my thanks and best wishes

Ty

Thanks, Ty. I really appreciate that!

It has been "neglected" of late, so was quite nice to add an update of sorts...
I'm sure I will be adding more over the coming months.

Just a quick update;

I have been working on a complete rebuild over the last few weeks.

I am now getting close to the point where I will be able to release an early MVP hopefully before Christmas. It will have limited functionality at first, but the new build should allow me to add features pretty quickly this time around.

I have big plans for the new app with a lot more features, including (but not limited to):
  1. Newsletter signup.
  2. Improved custom query builder.
  3. Games (UK domain related - bare with me!)
  4. Voting/Rating of all recorded sales - price too high, too low, or about right.
  5. User sale submissions (will need to be validated before appearing on site).
  6. A consistent schedule of historic UK domain sales articles.
  7. Improved sale details page.
  8. Improved bulk whois.
  9. Currency conversion.
  10. Inflation adjustments.
  11. Stats dashboard.
  12. Google Chrome extension.
It will be on a new domain and completely replace seemly:
https://domainsaleshistory.uk/

Next step for me will be to add a newsletter signup functionality but until then, I will update you here.

I do this for accountability more than anything else, so please accept my apologies if your not interested or if you're confused as to why I'm building such a platform in the first place...

Update: https://domainsaleshistory.uk

Throughout the new build I have managed to implement a bunch of improvements that will allow for greater functionality and greater query control in future.
Still very much in Beta, but much of the core functionality is now in place.
  1. More sources have been added, with regular scheduled (automated) tasks doing much of the work regarding adding sales data.
  2. The dashboard (home page) displays an initial set of tables and stats that are mainly there as a quick glance for me to see that things are still working, but it's also quite nice to see how sales platforms are performing VS previous time period, and against each other.
  3. Basic search functionality exists. Greater functionality will be added when other priorities have been implemented.
  4. I have managed to import more than 3k additional sales to the database than what can be found on seemly.

Current priorities are:
  1. Mobile navigation (currently non-existent)
  2. Implementing currency conversions for all records (functionality exists, I just need to implement and launch it)
  3. User account signups
  4. User voting/rating of individual sales
  5. Implement ability to write articles
