I've noticed the use of overture ratings to "rate" domains on here. Just to confirm I've got this right, you use the overture keyword suggestion tool for keywords contained in the domain (without the domain extension) as a measure
of potential clickthrough?

ie: naughty devil gets 142 (using http://inventory.overture.com)

1. You need to look at the correct overture address for different countries. For .co.uk domains use this address

http://inventory.uk.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

2. Domain name without extension, in your case "naughtydevil" or "naughty devil" will give you the potential of that "keyword" but not the traffic potential. It is preferred "with overture" results, naughtydevil.co.uk to be looked at. However, overture is a black box so it is good to be on the safe side by not betting farm on overture results. The best way is to park a domain and measure its traffic and source.

...There's two ways of looking at it;

1. is the purest view, which looks at type in traffic. This needs the domain extension to be included in the OV rating for your domain... Hence you end up with click through or type in traffic. ;)
2. is the view for potential development and the relevance to the subject to improve serch engine ranking, subject relevance etc. For this you don't need the domain extension included (although it does help).

Hope this helps. :)

Guys those tools don;t say much about the quality of the keywords. You know that most poeple just surfing the web. And they of course type the most popular keywords!

I have used this tool. It is OK but it does not help a lot!

Overture is important

Across the world domainers rate overture as highly important. Sometimes you can have a domain/word that you think people would type in the plural & find the opposite, telling you which one is better to purchase. Sometimes the overture can be enormous. Like someone said earlier, parking can pay. It works for some. If you are lucky enough to have a domain like dvd.co.uk for example. People will just type it in & mindlessly click on things. lIke sex.com. It brings in lots of ppc revenue. Personally I think waste of time for all but top domains. Only ignore overture if you have a domain you want to develop & others think not great name & overture not saying much, & you want to develop. Think of Godaddy.com, company worth millions upon millions, as is the domain because it is the business & everyone knows the name. On the face of it when they started, I bet some people said, 'what a wa*k name!' They were right. But then they were wrong! Predator :twisted:
