I'm unsure if the following would be seen as contentious or not but, given the overwhelming number of sales threads for .org.uks, I'm going to ask this one

I often wonder how many people on Acorn realise if you can't sell a .org.uk here at Acorn you can't sell it anywhere - full stop. It dosen't matter how much you want for your .org.uk or how much interest there is - from a sales perspective it ends here.

Not sure that is true. I have sold plenty outside of Acorn, including to end users (i.e. not just to other domainers / seo companies).

Stephen.

If you can't sell them here, you could probably sell them on an affiliate marketing forum, like Affiliates4u, as some affiliates just look for domains that can rank well in UK search engines. And also, not every UK domainer that has an interest in .org.uk domains is a member of this forum.

From a business standpoint no commercial entity would be seen dead 'wearing one' Which makes the reality of trying to sell a .org.uk on it's commercial appeal pretty mute outside of this board and the seo contingent

.org.uks may be financially viable for small companies who want to rank well for a certain keyword but can't afford the .co.uk; I've seen a few of them using .org.uk as their main web address. I agree maybe not for larger, multinationals but then again, I don't see what harm it could do if a .org.uk can bring traffic and customers to a business.

Agree to an extent although there will always be exceptions, including for .org.uk domains appropriate for charities or campaigns. However, who knows what could happen in a few years and they may become more mainstream?

I'm going to seem pedantic here but just picking up on Brassnecks "I'm not sure thats true" and your "I've seen a few" tells me that you agree with my general statement

Completely disagree with that statement. Take a look at DomainPrices.co.uk, you'll see plenty of .org.uk domains being sold on Sedo and other sites.

And the reality check comes from filtering the org.uks out of that entire recorded history barely 3 pages out of 152. I wont pull it apart further to see just how many were sold/listed here or due to pure SEO

There were more Sedo sales than Acorn sales. And even though there only 3 pages of .org.uk sales on that site, it still disproves your statement.

I can see you're adamant to prove your statement to be true.

I was just trying to be polite. I do not agree with your general statement - in fact two of my best domain sales were for one-word .org.uk domains. Both via sedo and both to end-users.

Stephen.

Sampling gave me a org.uk end-user site on my 5th attempt and I can't find a record of it having been sold through here.

Please please don't think that - I know it to be true.

By the way cheers for taking the subject on - thats what it's all about

Of course. Having a friendly debate is one of my favourite things to do online. Another being speaking absolute nonsense. I won't mention my third.

if you enter '.org.uk' as your keyword search criteria then you will see the first page is quite heavy for Sedo - page two and three not so.

I guessing that the defence league is defending less than 1% of the total sales listed and again I wonder how many were listed here before moving to Sedo after interest at Acorn but, we're into statistically insignificant ground already as far as the sample referenced

You are aware that many domain name investors and developers dont even bother signing up here...

There are many unreported high end .org.uk sales done outside of the forum.

Not via this forum I sold a .org.uk for 5 figures to an end-user and I know for a fact there was another .org.uk sold for a similar amount in the same week to an end-user as well.

Albeit an end-user who is aware of the SEO value of .org.uk domains, but an end-user all the same.

I don't think you understand what I mean. I checked random .org.uk generics and by the 5th one I had found a commercial end-user and did so again at the 8th.

pumps.org.uk
ballvalves.org.uk
scrapmetal.org.uk
removals.org.uk
houseclearances.org.uk

You can't say there isn't an end user market, its just not as mature as the .co.uk market.

Totally not true as I have sold more .org.uk names away from Acorn, than I have on Acorn.

I actually sold a .org.uk for £xx,xxx less than 10 days ago, to an end user who owns the .co.uk equivalent and they contacted me themselves and opened with a 5 figure offer without knowing ANY stats / traffic.
