I was surprised to see new people actually posting here for the first time, so I thought I'd join in.

I am freelance journalist and often cover domain stories for The Register, Guardian, Times, and I thought I'd join up because I've seen a stupid comment relating to a story of mine so I figure I'd go point it out.

My best domain is kierenmccarthy.co.uk - where I have my blog. Or possibly yeastlogic.com, which is the name of the company I haven't set up yet.

Worst is probably back2black.info which I registered for info to a party I was planning when it appeared I was going to emerge from a decade of debt. I emerged for about a week and then had to fly to California to research a book and I've not got near since. I still have the domain and it mocks me every time I renew it.

I'm also looking at what's been going on with Nominet's DRS, which is why I've been looking at Acorn today. I've lurked occassionally before now.

Hi Kieren,

Welcome to the forum! :)

I'm also looking at what's been going on with Nominet's DRS, which is why I've been looking at Acorn today.
...You'll find a plethora of information and plenty of people to help you on the subject of the Nominet's DRS here. ;)

Enjoy!

Regards,

Simon.

guardian

Had lunch with Miles today...he seemed pretty interested in the domain world but felt it was a bit too niche like...Is it only the IT section that is interested in this domain name/web world stuff?....can they not look to the future and see it will be part of pension planning one day!!!!!!!!!

welcome to the site, any exposure (positive I hope) you can give this site in The Register, Guardian, Times? :)

Well, if there's some expert views on stories I'm covering on the forum, I'd stick in a link and probably a reference. And then all but The Register would pull the links and references out again.

While I'm here - are people geared up to grab .mobi domains when they're opened up 2pm tomorrow?

Is it only the IT section that is interested in this domain name/web world stuff?

Yes.

For two reasons mostly:

1. 90 percent of journalists don't have a scientific/technical bone in their bodies so a large number of stories never make it through the series of editors on the way to the page.

2. The domain purchasing system has yet to hit the mainstream. As soon as you hear blokes in pubs complaining about having lost their domain, you'll find the press crawling all over it.

Press

No doubt the business will move more mainstream....at the moment press are interested if...

Someone gets litigated
Someone creates a weird and wonderful website

Dissin already FFS behave mishmash

Kierens first post did say "I thought I'd join up because I've seen a stupid comment relating to a story of mine"

He then pointed it out calling mishmash a 'muppet' on top :)

The 'dissin already' comment could be pointed towards kieren as well :)
