How much money are people willing to spend on domains? What are some of the highest amounts you all have received?

I was quite enjoying seeing some of these old threads coming back again...

bump ;-)

[Edit: 18/01/06: My post looks out of context now .... I think Admin has removed some junk posts from a very temporary - now banned - member who trolled around old posts making odd comments on them and bumping them to the surface. ]

Is that the one you 'stole' for GBP 50 ;-)? A great piece of business. I hope you gave the seller his 'moral percentage'.

The out and out purchase was £50+VAT, but I had much time and other legal expenses during the whole saga.

For legal reasons I cant be specific on the domain but suffice it to say it was a short .co.uk.

The party that I purchased the domain from for £50 would not have seen any of the £$£. It would have went to shareholders of a parent company so pointless giving away any of the 15k as a gesture of goodwill.

Out of geniune curiosity (truly) what kind of legal expenses were they? How complicated can a purchase be?

I assume, in view of the true value you knew the domain to be worth and therefore to avoid any subsequent squealing by the seller, you invested in a formal contract of purchase through a lawyer. It would have needed to be a watertight deal with that margin of profit. As I said, a great piece of business ;-)

When I bought the domain I didnt know ANYTHING about domains or their values/worth.

I bought the domain to put my business website on and my business counted on getting web traffic through the domain to survive.

However, due to the generic nature of this particular domain I got confused with a much bigger company so I was beseiged with their mail and my mailbox became unworkable.

Therefore they offered to purchase it. So when I say legal expenses, I suppose closer to the truth would be business expenses, because the business ceased when the domain was gone.

When they offered to buy it I started to look into the value of domains and that in effect is where my interest in domains started.

So...you had generic.co.uk and they had generic.com. Was that the scenario?

I have a few like that but the big .com has never come swooping in with a 'kching' offer. Pity. I live in hope...rather than expectation ;-).
