Hi guys!

I am having a problem with 123-Reg.
I backordered 2 domains at caught.co.uk. They were successfully registered. After that I ordered transfer to my account at 123-Reg. One of these domains appeared in my account, the other - not.

After several days of waiting I contacted 123-reg for details. They said that my 2nd domain is successfully transferred and placed in 3rd party’s account. They can't give me the details of the domain owner. Though WHOIS data for both domain is correct and it is mine data.

Did anybody have similar problems?

Eugene

I am not trying to put some dirt on 123-Reg. I asked if anybody had similar problems.

I didn't suggest you were, just raising the point that a simple search of this site and many others will see lots of examples of 123 issues if you are looking for other customers with problems.

I had the same thing happen with fasthosts. It was a bit of a pain, but I eventually got fasthosts to contact the 3rd party to transfer it to me.

If the domain whois is in Eugene's name, either of these shouldn't need to happen. 123-REG's accounts have historically gotten foobarred especially when the domain in the past has been in someone elses 123-reg account.

It's for 123-reg to get their database cleaned and move the domain to the right account or Eugene to move to a different registrar. I'd give 123-reg 24hrs to sort it or move and invoice them the registar release fee (it'll have t be done through your Nominet account) and time cost / hr wasted.

Thank you for your replies. I will try to proove them that both domains should be in my account. They ask me to send utility bills and some scanned docs.

You shouldn't have to go to all this trouble they should simply look at the who is and sort it out.
There problem is they are so big they seem to loose sight of the individual
If you can't be bothered messing about £12 at nominet will let you move them somewhere with better service.
Alternatively give nominet a call and complain they might do the tag change for free I doubt it though probably just refer you back to 123

+1 on this - If it were me I would make a formal complaint to Nominet. What they have done is to give someone else full control of your domain name despite the fact that a simple WHOIS check and some common sense could have resolved the matter. It stinks.

It is ridiculous! And when I contacted Nominet about it my case, they simply referred me back to Fasthosts...

I told them that WHOIS are the same for both domains. They replied me that it doesn't matter. And they offered me to send the docs or transfer the domain to somebody else through Nominet.

I'd call Nominet and ask for a TAG transfer for free as 123 are asking you to jump through unreasonable hoops to control a domain which you are the legal registrant.
I'm not sure what there like with domains but webhostingbuzz have great support as a webhost

Might be worth trying to contact

Thanks. I've already sent the docs to 123-Reg.

I wouldn't disturb other people in this satiation because I can ask Nominet for 10 pounds transfer. I was just curious how often such things happen. I am a newbie in co.uk domains and I never thought I would have such problems from the start.

The issue is with the registrar not the system!

The .co.uk transfer process is tried & tested and for most, it works well. The Nominet side of the transfer process has obviously worked OK as the name can be seen as being associated with 123's TAG, however, it is not associated with your 123 account and this is not something that has broken or can be broken in the Nominet process as this simply switches which registrar has the admin access to the registry for the domain.

If you are serious about .co.uk domains, then do yourself a favour and either find a registrar that takes good care of your domains or join Nominet and manage your own IPSTAG.

123-Reg and host europe should be avoided like the syphilitic plague of a company that they are. Its funny because if all the rubbish people say about them being lying, incompetent, full of crap gits was lies, they would be sueing people (or threatening them with the law), but since its all true they do bugger all.

Daily.co.uk clean their database, usually takes around 12-48hours for names to vanish from my account when I have dropped, sold or changed tag.

Not really had any issues with them.

Your argument works equally well in reverse:

"if all the rubbish people say about them being lying, incompetent, full of crap gits was true, people would be sueing them"

Thanks. I'll try to transfer there my new domains.

You are right blossom because everyone has sufficient funds pursue them through the courts, my bad ;)
