Anyone tried this yet, I've had a look and via a certain provider, the option to buy someone elses .uk is there, it just prompts you that the details need to be the same as the .co.uk, but doesn't seem to actually stop you! I've not pulled the trigger though...

Hmm.. strange. Just as a test I got as far as being able to create cars.uk from within my Nominet control panel I just didn't pull the trigger. It even let me choose myself as a registrant and when I registered my own .uk it never asked for email verification once?

It will require email verification by the registrant holding the Rights, according to information available at www.nominet.org.uk. Go ahead and pay for it for them. :p

Have you been awake all night? :p

It emails the Registrant if the registrant you [a Registrar] enter matches the Registrant associated with the domain name that holds the .uk Right and if the domain name holding that Right is on a different Registrar tag. If, however, it's plainly a different Registrant name then it will error.

Yes. I may write the day off later on. :)

Thanks for clearing that up. :) .uk is that exciting eh :p

I'm not so sure about this, I could try ordering one of my business domains through my personal account, but not brave enough and have to head back to hospital. Anyone brave enough to try ;)

Possibly because some registrars aren't so quick to setup. With a certain seller, I can go as far as paying for a domain I don't have rights to, without it checking anything!

That'll be down to their registrar front end "lying" to you. It won't be accepted by Nominet.

How bout I test with one of yours and instead of eating your Macbook ill just keep the domain if it works? :p

The domain xxxx.uk not created for the following reason: V334 Your request for domain 'rightpeople.uk' has failed because the 'account-name' for the registrant does not fully match any registrant which has rights for this domain.

Next test, to create a domain in the original registrants name on my tag and then transfer it to myself? Would you be happy with that David? :D

Invincible's right.

Not sure why anyone would be wasting their time on this.

Simply because it is interesting and because some registrars are giving the option to buy, even though it shouldn't/won't be possible to register.

Obviously DaveP is doing it as a registrar at the back end directly with Nominet. Many end users will make registrations via front ends that may not have the checks in place to stop customers initially being charged, despite the fact that Nominet will deny the registration if it doesn't adhere to their rules.

Text me the right email as neither of the two I know are working lol.

I'm sure you're right mate but I def didn't need to verify mine through an email. :S

The domain(s) with the Right(s) are already on the same Registrar tag you are making the application for the .uk 2LD from?

You're right mate. Well it's worth testing to make sure Nominet's systems are rock solid eh. :)

Thank you for applying to register your domain name.

The registrar you have registered this domain through is different to the registrar you have previously used. In order to complete this application we need to confirm that the email address provided is valid. Please click the link below to confirm that this is your email address and that you have applied to register this domain.

Thanks for giving it a try; so I expect if I tried this through a useless seller like Ukreg/fasthosts they would happily take my money, then prevent registering, only for me to chase them for years to get a refund!

Yup. :D

Anyone know a registrar that is processing these instantly? I tried to register a .uk with names.co.uk but they said they are processing them slowly on purpose to avoid mistakes.

Thanks

Karl

Tried to claim a .uk for one of my .co.uk's at Godaddy but got the following:

UK Eligibility Information
One or more of the domains you selected is reserved. We have removed the affected domain(s).
The registry has reserved these .uk domains for anyone who registered the matching .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk domains before June 10, 2014. Those registrants have until June 10, 2019 to claim their .uk domain.

Names removed:
*****.uk

The domain is held at Godaddy but their system won't let me reg it with them at the moment.

Anyone had any luck claiming their .uk at their .co.uk registrar?

I've tried with 1&1 a few of hours ago, it accepted my payment, but in my control panel its still waiting approval.

My .uk domain has now been successfully registered and I have forwarded it to my main .co.uk website.
