I've noticed lots and lots of brand domains appearing in the drop lists lately.

At first I thought they must just be unwanted but there are so many on the same tag I now think it must be one of those brand protect type companies that look after people's brand domains.

There can't be much need for these type of domains of the brands don't even want them, so are brands abandoning these for apps?

lots of brands are centralising their online presence, instead of have 20 different sites they are going with like parent.tld/brand/ parent.tld/otherbrand. Seems they are cleaning house.

Also brands are using search more, how many times do you hear "Search blahdeblah" then you look and its an adsense campaign.

Could you give some examples? Ones that have already dropped, not looking for you to give any away that haven't yet dropped.

I don't mind saying as I don't think its something anyone else will register, only of use to the actual brands etc

WimpyBurgers was one from today, ShowcaseCinema is one for tomorrow.

I would have thought even though they don't look that good, that the owners would have kept them seeing as it costs so little to them to renew etc

I wonder if the BBC will start dropping all of theirs?

After information received, I see its not a csc corporate protection type company, still interesting to see these types of names dropping though.

Nokta seem to be dropping lots of good brandable names also and keyword domains that are brandable.

I wonder if companies like this are going to drop the co.uk and keep the .uk in the near future?

Nokta - A lot of Americanisms like "foreclosure" or "vacation" that were a bad idea for the UK market when first registered.

On one day I picked up two .co.uk where the original owners had registered .uk. They simple discarded (or forgot to renew) the .co.uk.

Now that is interesting, all of the domains registered out of sync with the co.uk should be interesting to watch. Drop lists are going to be huge in the future.

Those two could be generic. Have you never stood in the nude and been told you have a wimpy [looking] burger, Caz? :p

Showcase can be a verb meaning exhibit or display. As for cinema, see here.

I agree they could be generic to a point, but a burglar could genuinely own a laptop, and the 12 others and bag of mobile phones dotted around his house could be his kids.

I know you like calling names but I'm not going to be drawn in.

BTW I don't have a problem with anyone registering such names, I was just amazed to be told by pm that it was you.

Not following you.

I don't. Good news because I have so much to do.

Good for you. :) Not me. :)

Well that was pleasant.

Any input as to why companies are letting these drop?

They don't want them any longer perhaps.

Well I've now been messaged saying they made a mistake and its not you lol

Still it amazes me why they are letting them drop, could they not just separate the ones they are keeping to a new tag and then try and sell the rest?

On a different sibject

I wonder how many domains that Grant Shapps had, I wonder if prss has Sebastian Fox or Michael Green owning many lol

Was he a member of Acorn?

One of the many reasons I don't use private messaging here; so easy for someone to fire up and send a message without taking the time to think. In my experience people put more thought into emails.

No idea. Email them and ask. :)

I don't know any of these people.

Sorry Grant Shapps is the Conservative Party Chairman aka Michael Green and Sebastian Fox, he used to associated to lots of those scammy web sites, how to read your dreams etc and his family business selling seo software illegally scraping content, police said it was fraudulent but not prosecuting.

Only in Britain can you get away with this.

I'm not informed about that so will have to read up and perhaps get back to you. Looks like you made wimpy burgers famous as it's been picked up, although the .uk is currently FTR.

Why on earth would anyone want domains such as these? They are of no use to the rights holder. They are no longer of any value to non-rights holders, thankfully.

What would you suggest they are of use for?
