Little side project I created and put live over the past few weeks is www.leaphotels.com

Just created it for a bit of fun really more than anything else, thought it was something different to work on.

Tried to make the site as simple as possible with no registrations etc - just enter a destination and you're done.

Welcome any feedback :)

Edit - On another note, if anyone has ideas to get traffic to the site let me know. I'm well out of the SEO game, but if there's any sites that may find this actually useful that'd be handy!

What file size is your home page image? I don't have time to try and download it, but it appeared to be taking a bit of time to load on my fibre broadband connection implying it's too large.

It's big enough from what I remember, never had issues with it myself loading though (on a slowish connection too). But yeah, I'm sure I could make the homepage faster by making the images smaller. Thanks.

I'm on a slow connection, up to 5mb and the image loads more or less instantly.

It's badly optimised - should be a jpg, not gif. Chrome says it's 1.7MB which is insane. You should be looking at 100-200kb tops.

This is what I suspected because I saw incremental loading on my fibre broadband.

You're dead right. Will change it when I get the chance.

The image is also physically too big, isn't it?

About 90% of that doesn't actually show up on the screen.

On mobile the entire thing is displayed. But yeah, room improvement.

Since people have slower mobile connections (generally) than fixed ones, shouldn't NONE of the image show on mobile?

Times are moving on in my view, majority of people have fast enough mobile connections these days. Removing all images for mobile is a bit overkill. An odd image or two isn't going to cause much harm.

Fine with my talk talk connection ( non fibre )
Normal page load times for me :)

@Jamie101 - Very nice site, will send you a pm

Your images should still be optimised for multiple resolutions.

Take a look at http://responsejs.com/

Eg

Code:
<div
  data-min-width-320='<img src=lo-fi.png alt="image @ 320+ viewports">'
  data-min-width-961='<img src=hi-fi.png alt="image @ 961+ viewports">'
