Playing with undeveloped.com

Moved a load of domains over there yesterday. What is working best for you, setting BIN's or offers?

@DomainManage - put in an integrated instant pay escrow - charge ~1% commission - Bob’s your uncle!

There is no need to charge commission. DomainManage charge an annual fee for their services already.

There is also an alternative (Efty), but the only currency they currently support is USD. I hope they add GBP support soon.

Any plans to integrate some more payment options on DomainManage? For example Stripe and Escrow Pay. Escrow.com now support GBP.

You can already add a basic PayPal buy-it-now button or add a link to your Escrow provider, but to be honest most of our users are able to secure the full payment from the buyer via BACS via email negotiation. When someone approaches you for a domain you are in a strong position - you need to stop pandering to buyers. Providing you look credible and are transparent about your business as a seller 99% of buyers will be happy to provide full payment on receipt of an invoice.

When you consider most .co.uk sales are around £500 if you want to give 10%, 15%, 20% away to third party, then wait for everyone else to get their commision, and be left dangling before you get paid then I can only put it down to the fact you don't like money. Who's doing the transfer work at the end of the day?

On the credibility issue - this has always been a historic domainer problem - secretive, dodgy website, sketchy contact details, difficult to get hold of, mysterious pricing. You look at the really successful domainers with incredible domains - I can guarantee right now they are all upfront about their business - nice clean websites with their stock mostly priced in plain view.

My own humble opinion... setting BINs and taking 9% commission hits is chucking thousands and thousands down the pan. If someone wants a domain and has money to spend, a) they get in touch with you regardless of there being a BIN or not and b) you should trust your negotiating skills to get the best sale price out of them. I guess I can see the benefit in quick impulse sales if you are not totally fussed with maximising profit, however.

@wizard what's so funny?

I don't agree with what your saying I'm happy with undeveloped and use them plus all the others sedo, unireg there is far more trust with a end user buying via any of these platforms we have tried every method and still test and our results are 10 x better using all rather sticking to direct contact.

Reading that part back I sound like a snarky little prick, I didn't mean it that way. I was being sincere, I can see the benefit in keeping sales rolling like that.

as it means I can park my domains without having to make hundreds of individual parking pages

I actually went down this route, but to begin with I used a generic sales page, non-customised to the domain itself. But then I figured I could use the POST data coming from the domain name to check the URL and use that to customised the page. If anybody is interested in the layout, let me know, I can hook you up for a small price, at the moment I'm integrating reCaptcha v3 as an invisible layer to stop spam emails, I had to temporarily remove the contact form, as without reCaptcha it was getting spammed to death. An example can be seen at any of my current domains on portfolio - https://redirects.co.uk for example.

Secondly, I would like to say that after reading this thread I have placed some of my best domains on undeveloped as a testflight, let's see how it goes! 9% does seem steep, but with eyes open and my feet firmly on the ground, 91% of something is better than 0% of nothing.

To put things in to context, I actually sell very little on Sedo, and I've not long started usng Undeveloped. Almost all of my sales now and since I started domaining 11 years ago, were made on Acorn or DomainLore.

When I say I don't mind paying 9% or 10% commission, that's on a very limited number of sales over that time, and I don't mind payng that for the reason I stated I an earlier post. Which is, I can't be arsed making individual parking pages for each of the hundreds of domains I own.

I've sold around 40 domains in the last two weeks for around €9K, of those, the only domains attracting commission are 2 sales on Undeveloped for £2.4K and £185, the larger sale is completed, the other one has been paid for, but transfer not yet accepted after 3 days.

The others were on DomainLore for £1.8K, a few more on Acorn, and a couple of private bulk sales to buyers I know (Acorn members) for £1.5K and £3K. Do I mind paying commission on the odd parked sale here and there, no, I don't.

Seems a bit steep - 9% +vat to sell a domain that you would have sold anyway.

No, it wouldn't have definitely "sold anyway", that would depend on if they emailed me via their company address, or something like Gmail. Not all companies contact through their company address, many like to try and hide their true identity when making offers.

If contacing me via an anonymous email address, it would still be a sale with a 9% commission, because, even if I had the domain on a parked page I made myself, or if the domain wasn't parked, and they contacted me via the email address in the Who-Is, and made an £x,xxx offer, I would add the domain to Undeveloped, and direct them to place their bid there.

Where domains are concerned, a lot of people email from Gmail type addresses, and I have a simple rule, that is, I don't deal with random people using Gmail addresses for sales of £x,xxx, offers like that need to be made on Sedo/Undeveloped or no sale is happening. If it's a serious buyer, they'll make their bid there and I'll pay the commission, simple as that.

On the other hand, if it's someone who's up front and emails from a company email address, that's different, I can research the individual/company, as I did in the case of Maven.co.uk, which I sold a few years ago for £5K after an initial £3K offer. I checked out the company who made the offer, and was happy for that sale to be completed privately by bank transfer.

Moved most of my domains to undeveloped a couple of weeks back. Lot's of offers so far and 1 pending sale. It's a nicer interface to use than Uniregistry which I was using before and paying 9% compared to paying a miniumum of $175 or 20% is a no brainier.

Good communication from the team too, although would be nice if they could introduce pound sterling as a payment option.

They do offer pound sterling just change that in account settings.

Not sure if you know this by now, but if you are contacted outside of Undev but still want to use it to conduct the sale then use their 'Add Lead' option (in Sales Activity area) and the commission is 5% instead.

People have been using my service for a while and I can see they get plenty of (spam free) offers. I myself have sold 4 figures worth in the last 7 days to end users. I was hoping some of the people who use it would mention it but not happening. So don't discount us subscription people with no fees :p You can also set BIN linked directly to your paypal.

A few more offers/sales, current £100 offer for getactive.co.uk. Anglican.co.uk sold for £150, and brightmove + .uk sold for £750 yesterday, they've paid, waiting for them to accept the transfer.

I hadn't seen that "Add Lead" button, thanks for pointing that out :)

I sold another one about 20 minutes ago, someone bought pledge which is an org.uk for £750 via 6 x £125 monthly payments.
