When you consider most .co.uk sales are around £500 if you want to give 10%, 15%, 20% away to third party, then wait for everyone else to get their commision, and be left dangling before you get paid then I can only put it down to the fact you don't like money. Who's doing the transfer work at the end of the day?
To put things in to context, I actually sell very little on Sedo, and I've not long started usng Undeveloped. Almost all of my sales now and since I started domaining 11 years ago, were made on Acorn or DomainLore.
When I say I don't mind paying 9% or 10% commission, that's on a very limited number of sales over that time, and I don't mind payng that for the reason I stated I an earlier post. Which is, I can't be arsed making individual parking pages for each of the hundreds of domains I own.
I've sold around 40 domains in the last two weeks for around €9K, of those, the only domains attracting commission are 2 sales on Undeveloped for £2.4K and £185, the larger sale is completed, the other one has been paid for, but transfer not yet accepted after 3 days.
The others were on DomainLore for £1.8K, a few more on Acorn, and a couple of private bulk sales to buyers I know (Acorn members) for £1.5K and £3K. Do I mind paying commission on the odd parked sale here and there, no, I don't.
Seems a bit steep - 9% +vat to sell a domain that you would have sold anyway.
No, it wouldn't have definitely "sold anyway", that would depend on if they emailed me via their company address, or something like Gmail. Not all companies contact through their company address, many like to try and hide their true identity when making offers.
If contacing me via an anonymous email address, it would still be a sale with a 9% commission, because, even if I had the domain on a parked page I made myself, or if the domain wasn't parked, and they contacted me via the email address in the Who-Is, and made an £x,xxx offer, I would add the domain to Undeveloped, and direct them to place their bid there.
Where domains are concerned, a lot of people email from Gmail type addresses, and I have a simple rule, that is, I don't deal with random people using Gmail addresses for sales of £x,xxx, offers like that need to be made on Sedo/Undeveloped or no sale is happening. If it's a serious buyer, they'll make their bid there and I'll pay the commission, simple as that.
On the other hand, if it's someone who's up front and emails from a company email address, that's different, I can research the individual/company, as I did in the case of Maven.co.uk, which I sold a few years ago for £5K after an initial £3K offer. I checked out the company who made the offer, and was happy for that sale to be completed privately by bank transfer.
