Giving away all my voucher site source code...

I'm interested too Frog, but you do realise if you release your code it will be torn apart by the not so ethical squad on the black side of the internet. There will be nulled copies of your script everywhere within 24 hours. Perhaps you should only release it to people you can trust.

I'm going on the assumption that since I'm not actually charging for it, the interest in created nulled copies will be drastically reduced.

If I only release it to people I trust the distribution of it is going to be massively reduced, which would make phase 2 be near impossible. that will involve getting a web design company on board to offer alternative skins for it. I don't intend to pay them any money, but will let them add a "design by..." link in the footer of their theme for it. I doubt anyone will go for that if I've only distributed it to a couple of friends and one arsehole ;) Not sure how many installs I'd need to make that an attractive proposition to a decent designer, 50+ maybe? Though if we get a huge number I'll just pay the designer myself I guess, to limit the credit link to just my own site...

Hopefully this will work better as a promotional strategy than my attempt to let merchants claim their own pages in return for a link back... what a farce that turned out to be.

All the icodes integration is done and tested, it just needs to all be packaged up with an installer script now - I would expect to be ready to launch this within a week. If anyone has any last minute feature requests, feel free to post them.

I'd definately be interested in the code Frog. Sounds really good :)

OK, so that's me covered as a friend, but who is the arsehole ;)

I don't doubt that some people will end up removing it, but when we were thinking about that aspect of it I don't think its that big of a worry. No big site/company is going to risk legal action by using a pirated script to run their site, and anyone small enough that they are willing to take that risk is not serious competition to me I don't think.

If anyone does choose to go down that route their host could be DMCA'd I guess, and affiliate networks can't openly let affiliates run their sites on stolen software also so there is another avenue to chase them down also.

I will speak to my coder today about integrating icodes, I'm not sure how much work is involved there.

Hi Frog,
I'm about to launch another discount code site (niche as opposed to broad stroke site that I currently have) and I'd be interested in moving away from WordPress/CouponPress.

Let me know if you do put you CMS out in the wild.

Would love to have a look at the code powering the backend. You may also want to look into adding a GPL license or some other derivative before releasing it into the "wild'.

I need to do some reading up on that to see exactly whats involved in that. Basically I need the license to say you can do whatever you want with it, as long as you leave the credit link intact.

Trying to get my redesign launched on couponcroc then I'll be making the code available. I don't want to have all the free versions of it looking exactly my main site.

Been a fortnight now, so my last minute feature request would be, any chance of getting your finger oot and releasing this? :)

It can be quite a daunting process but I think a License similar to that of Simple Machines sounds like it would fit what you wan't quite well.

I forgot I even posted in this thread until VSC resurrected it from the dead and I got an email informing me the thread was updated. I notice it wasn't updated by the OP ;) Another flight of fancy I'd imagine. I'll release it within the week (6 weeks ago) :) Ribbit

Yeah I'm behind schedule but will still be going ahead as planned.

I can't give away the source (and the design) until I've got my new site design launched. I got ripped off by codemyconcept on that front (they finally refunded me today after I posted on a4u about it :)), then xhtmlchop.com turned out to be the most incompetent Indian firm I've ever dealt with, and thats saying something... both of those sets of clowns have caused the delay.

So as we stand right now I need to finish this - http://test.couponcroc.co.uk/, get it launched on the main site, then give the code away with the red/blue design that is on the site currently.

Estimated time? Who knows. Its not in my own hands so I've learned the lesson not to say it'll be x days. I'll post again when its ready and everyone will get a thread update email. If you've any questions or whatever feel free to send them or post here.

Looking good, can't wait to see and test the final product.
I also like the new "It'll be ready when it's ready" stance :)

I'd be very interested in this if only to better understand the tech requirements for running a successful coupons site.
