Interesting thread, I also made the mistake of regging a tm domain when I first started out- have read lots of horror stories and deleted them quick!
On the theory of relativity one, it always helps to have a general interest in the domain in question, educational sources can actually be quite a little goldmine (read up on the nineplanets_org site at self made minds) some unique content on a simple html site gets attention from browsing students who don't tend to have adword blindness
Try getting some .ac backlinks as well. All the best!
