that range rover gives me the right horn!!
we are looking at the bmw 1series for our next car, need somthing a bit smaller and sporty:cool:

Yes thats in one of the photos, doesnt look like it comes with a roof rack although could tow the kayaks behind. The idea is to buy two cars over the course of the year, this one sooner as need to get mobile, got skiing coming up in the winter and needs to be an off road type of car in this country, safer too. We also hope to buy two harleys, I got to pass my driving test though somehow.

You won the lottery out there?

As for the bottom one, I have one of the 1 series m-sports and they eat motorway miles for fun, it has sport mode / DSC so can be fun off them as well. 123d / 135i are the two to go for, but rear wheel drive with runflats by default so wouldnt want to use in snow :)

I thought you were boracic Lee? I'd keep a good wedge of that house money saved up if I were you ;)

We need a car, this country isn't the UK with good public transport all over and the second car, two harleys, two horses only comes if have a year like this one again which should be more than possible, harleys are cheap at £5k to £12k each. I don't think we need two cars anyway but two bikes would be required.

Do you get to sell a house every year?

Got to agree with dale here...!

I need a car, couldve bought one twice this year but did other things with the money. Let's face it, the house was sold two years too late and for 3/4s the price, if that but due to death being an head f*** I waited to make a decision meanwhile the world moved on and down.

I'm 32, I need to get on with life, most will stay in the bank, if anything the last three months has taught me and the girlfriend a lot about needing money in the bank and saving a bit, however also realise we need a car to do more stuff and get around.

The idea is also to buy a country home out of the city for less than £30k but will try for finance for both - and we need a car to get to it as well, have to see how it goes, will be sitting down for at least a week talking it over with the girlfriend on how we're going to proceed to ensure our futures are safe and healthy. The only problem with that is the massive smile on our faces and thoughts drifting to the car and everything that it will make possible.

I'm just as concerned as you are, as spending money is what I like doing, especially with this girl, never before have I enjoyed doing things, seeing life and spending money with anybody like I do now with her.

Personally I would get a Demo model with a remaining warranty/service and put the rest in property.

It's no good in the bank - low interest less tax plus inflation your money is standing still.

I quite like the honestjohn.co.uk site for feedback on car reliability.

Also, if you are thinking of buying a BMW, there are some knowledgeable people in the motors sub-forum at:

Motors - Overclockers UK Forums

but be warned, they can have strong opinions!

You will be rolling like a Romanian Alan Sugar in this one!

I haven't checked recently but it was possible to get 10% savings here, not sure if still doing it and of course would make sure bank gauranteed money was safe and get it written that a government somewhere would cover it.

Not sure about demo but will google it, as for property, aint the be all and end all, I've come to the conclusion that renting for another year aint so bad (but somewhere different to now) but as stated I am at least looking to buy a villa in the mountains or 90 minutes out with a view to getting a mortgage for an apartment in Bucharest within a year.

You'd be surprised how well to do some Romanians are, in every street the latest cars, not many old ones about albeit in the suburb sectors and outside the city.

Thanks for offers of opinions and advice, all appreciated. I will be thinking how best to manage what has been left me.

autotrader.co.uk has had a make over so perhaps have a look around there! :)

Why don't you take the money out of your house sale and buy yourself a couple of really good domains that are proven earners?

Show good and steady money coming in over 6 months and you will not have a problem getting finance and your domains will only increase in value.

.

Get my new car tomorrow, BMW 520, nice deals at the minute as it's changing next year

Stick to a new Dacia. The roads in Romania will only ruin your car anyway. Might as well ruin a cheap one.

I've seen many expensive car owners in Romania living in poverty as to them it is more important to be seen in an expensive car than to have a decent house :) Crazy way of thinking, that a car is more important.

Good luck learning to drive in Bucharest. I'm an experienced driver of 17 years and Bucharest is still like running a gauntlet :)
