FFS - I let a domain name drop

I've caught some domain names in the past many years ago and now I've forgot to renew one. drivinginstructors.co.uk - I remembered the day before it deleted. Sadly nominet were unable to help and all the back order companies were pre-booked. I couldn't afford the price it went upto as it went to auction. Oh well lesson learnt, I feel like a right numpty. One of those domain names I thought I'd develop when I had more time but sadly that extra time never arrived.

Anyone else wearing the same t-shirt?

Been there done that about 50 times. Just recently I was about to lose my most expensive one word dictionary .com domain, something happened and I accidently checked the expiration date, it was due to expire in two days, I managed to renew in time.

Yeah, I had a couple that I just couldn’t afford to renew at the time drop, I’ve since managed to recover one as the person who caught it dropped it, but the other one I really wanted to keep is still being held.

Losing a name like that always stings. What really counts is learning from it and staying ready for the next opportunity.

I saw that domain come up I tried to catch it myself but missed it I thought that it was a great domain to add to my portfolio sad to hear you let it go by mistake just keep an eye on your domain registration dates especially for the most importatnt ones that you know are worth good money a lesson learned for all of us I think.

Nominet will not pull it back once you are past the registrar renewal window. After expiry you still have about 90 days on-tag to renew; it drops at day 95. Remembering the day before delete is already too late if the name is on every catcher list.

drivinginstructors.co.uk was always going to auction. Backorder only works if you place it early and accept that a popular dictionary name is already taken in the queue.

The only reliable fix is an expiry alert that does not depend on the WHOIS mailbox still working.
