@Murray bet you are loving it!
Just took me 3 hours to watch a 90 min episode but even with kids bothering me, dog bothering me, wife bothering me, and customers .. conversing with me.., was well worth it. I'm glad it got good after a lull. Going to be hard for people to comment with no spoilers
I know nothing
Wow... it's Jon Snow
I’m on holiday just now and had to watch with ads with Portuguese subtitles
Never seen an episode....maybe it's time to lose my cherry and start with S01E01
I was disappointed! They've just gone too far with the "badass" moments, it's like they decide what the "badass" moments are going to be, then just try and fill the gaps the best they can.
Same here. Then again I am always late to the good shows and only tend to start watching after they've finished.
It's better to be late as now they seem to cancel series before they finish. Watch them all when it's ended.
Flash forward, Salvation, Stargate Universe, and others that I enjoyed ended on cliffhangers with no more seasons commissioned
Don't want to go off topic here but I am currently watching Salvation and although it has its problems, it's still an all right watch. (my attention is taken by Travelers right now and I think I read that has been cancelled after S3, hopefully it ends well enough)
Salvation gets better and has a great cliffhanger... be warned though there are no more seasons. Sadly reality tv is cheaper and while we can have 20 seasons of hollywood housewives we can't have decent sci fi. At least GoT is not reliant on just the fickle US market.
I love the books
I think the show has really lost it's way in later seasons sadly, I had a lot of problems with this episode and season in general
Why have a defensible position like Winterfell and send most of your men outside the walls to die
It kept seeming hopeless, our heros surrounded by masses undead but yet somehow they don't die
How did Jon survive when he attempted to fight the Night King and was totally surrounded by wights? they cut away and when they came back they were just attacking him one at a time lol very handy
HOW WAS THERE NO SWORD FIGHT BETWEEN JON AND THE NIGHT KING?
Surely that's what 99% of people wanted to see? Jon didn't have to win, just at least a bit of fighting until a distraction comes in to stop them, maybe Ghost leaping in and being killed
How was there no White Walker vs Valyrian Steele holding heros? Brienne and Jorah facing off against some White Walkers would have been cool to see
How did they pass up these obvious and fun cinematic moments?
The Night King and the White Walkers did fuck all, they've been built up as the only thing that matters, the wars of men seemed so petty in comparison, yet the last 3 episodes are going to be what? what's left vs Cersie, who cares, so anti-climatic
Who would have thought the last time we would see a White Walker properly fight was Hardhome in what, season 5?
Arya jumping out of nowhere like a ninja and just prison shanking him :|
Jon or someone like Brienne should have been fighting the Night King, losing, all but dead, then in a last fleeting moment causing the distraction Arya needed to kill him
That adds tension, that adds gravity
All these potential cool moments wasted and that's all the show has been left with in recent seasons, cool moments
I know the books will be nothing like this (if the new ones ever get done lol) and thank god
Pah Murray, you spoil sport
On reflection, your points are valid, and there was a number of situations where I thought "well that cast member is gone", and wondering how all the key players were suddenly there to save another over and over. I still found it immensely enjoyable, but my favourite GOT moments are still Tyrion Lannister's speech during trial and when the Night King and walkers attacked that settlement by the waters edge and they had to retreat.
Hardhome episode, yes that was much better done and the fight scene was a lot of what this episode could have done with
I also liked the battle for castle black episode with the Wildlings attacking the Wall
One of my favourite moments is actually just Tywin walking up the stairs to show Joffrey who was really in control
If you can recall what episode that was, let me know, would love to watch it again. I know you are a walking encyclopedia of GOT
The episode is called "Hardhome" , season 5 episodes 8
