<link rel="icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon">

But where do I put it ? Stlye sheet ? and what directory should the image go in ??

Help Appreciated

You put it in between the header tags.

Some sites say put it in the root index, others say in the /images (or similiar) - whatever takes your fancy.

OK..so you managed to choose an image that you'd prepared earlier and ran it through our favicon.ico generator and you clicked the download button and have it saved on your computer hard drive. Well done....you're nearly there.
Now you need to upload it to the root directory of your webspace.

Most browsers will automatically detect and use the favicon.ico file, even on pages that are written in PHP, ASP, etc.

It has been suggested that both of the following HTML lines should be included:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.favicon.co.uk/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon" />
<link rel="icon" href="http://www.favicon.co.uk/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon" />
(and obviously you'd replace favicon.co.uk with your website address)
