Well I just spoke to "Gail" at Nominet who advises,in fact insists, that there is no limit on the number of TAGS and DAC memberships that a single person/company may hold and may use them all to try and catch one name.
I asked whether Nominet did not think that it was unfair that a very small number of speculators like TagNames,M Zaffer, Rimiyvadis etc held a large proportion of the best domain names.Gail said "It it not Nominet's role to Police the system ". Asked why they do not auction the domain names she said "Nominet do not want to be seen to be making a profit".

That is part of it, all to be included in an article to be published in a national paper shortly,

you can have as many TAGS as you like but only 1 membership per user/company.

taken from Nominet's DAC FAQ
Can I access the DAC from more than one IP address?
No, each member can only have one DAC contract and each contract is limited to just one IP address

Ive been considering getting another TAG/DAC in my company name.

Anyone know if I can use the same IP for DAC access, dont fancy running 2 servers.

Laskos and Reddy are right.

Multiple DAC memberships are not allowed.
Multiple tags are, provided that you properly explain to Nominet what you are up to. The potential problems arise with people with phantom identities in an attempt to get higher access to the systems. If you have *proof* that someone is doing this, please let [email protected] know.

Still if the other Tag/DAC is in the name of a limited company, with different address and other particulars then thats OK isnt it? Only connection being I would be one of the directors.

I would just want to register domains to that company rather then my personal TAG, which should be fair enough reason to have a seperate TAG.

Is that fair or would I be breaking any rules?

If you are suggesting that you have one membership + Tag + DAC access for 'personal use' and another membership + Tag + DAC access for your company of which you are a director, and your intention is to get double the level the access for the purpose of dropcatching then that would be against the rules imo.

You've clearly got the wrong end of the stick - if it's published as you've described in your post above then you'll end up looking very silly

Take note of the corrections posted after your message.

Well the sole intention would not be to get twice as much, as I would genuinely like to have a personal TAG and a company TAG. I would not want own personal portfolio to be associated with my company and vice versus.

Just like everyone here has business investments and personal investments.. where is the line drawn in what domains I could call personal or business?

.

dont start again, we have been through this over and over.....

If you have anything to say please say it otherwise keep these theorys to yourself...

I can't believe how old this subject is getting.

All people seem to do these days is constantly bitch about each other, coming from a larger US forum and concentrating solely on the US market to this early last year was such a refreshing change for me.

It was such a relief to be part of a civilized community of like minded people without all the bitching and whining you get elsewhere.

It's a shame to see the UK reseller market go this way.

From my point of view time would be better spent optimising your own software instead of coming up with conspiricy theories about other catchers and dreaming up ways of cheating the system.

We'd all like to see catches being distributed evenly between people, but publishing ill informed newspaper articles and trying to get as many memberships as you can won't help the cause, only make it worse.

Im not suggesting cheating. I want to register domains in my company name. But have the flexibility of my own TAG rather then using a third party registar.

After all isnt CENTRASERVE (Seb Clark) and Dropcatcher (CHC) connected or even the same person?

Yeah Agreed - I worked for Chris he's a real person, and of course I know of Ronnie.

Without mentioning any names, lol, I often see several foreign companies ( whom would be well known to users of this forum) registering .co.uk and wonder who actually is behind those companies. My hunch is that they are from the UK and also have personal tags but who knows. Either way I myself would prefer to see Nominet auction the suspended names as soon as they become available rather than give them all to a handful of well known tags.

The DAC is limited to one connecting client (single IP address) per member, or group of related members. It is our intention to increase this limit in the near future.

OK so that clearly states I can have personal TAG/DAC and Business TAG/DAC and use the same IP.

Correct me if im wrong.

Its usually the ones who are constantly posting on forums instead of working on there systems that acuse others of wrong doing.

I beat TagNames to a domain name only a couple of nights ago, I know this because I deleted it and he picked it up minutes later, the domain name was not fantastic but had traffic.

I also caught the domain name manually!

If Andy was cheating he would of certainly beaten me to that domain name!
