A year back I paid to have one of my sites featured on a directory site. I had completely forgotten about this until a few days back, when payment for a further year was taken. It appears that I'd subscribed via paypal and as such the payment was automatically taken. The directory site in question isn't even online anymore, although they do appear to have another directory site and have updated their info to reflect this.

I have no interest in directories at this time and only paid for this renewal based on an oversight. Should I put this down to experience, or am I within my rights to perform a chargeback to claim this money back? I've never done that before, so have no idea if this fits the criteria of not. Thanks.

I would contact them and ask politely for them to refund it.

If they don't I would go through paypal to get it back.

I would assume they will just refund you though (hopefully)

Thanks. Already done that and am currently waiting :). Fingers crossed.

Had a similar situation earlier this month took the polite approach and heard nothing back so went through paypal dispute process. The buyer was pretty reasonable in the end said the paypal email account was not monitored thats why they didn't reply.
Give it a few days I guess then open the dispute remember you only have a limited amount of time to dispute the payment 14 days I think.

As luck would it have they refunded me a few minutes ago :). Thanks all for your advice anyway. Hopefully it can help others in similar circumstances.
