That's assuming he's letting the spiders and his competitors see the full picture.

Its impossible to do anything other than let your competitors see it.

Blocking Majestic or ahref may help, but then that brings a whole load of risks of its own.

If you're going to let Googlebot see the full picture, then a determined competitor can see it too, and there isn't a thing you can do about it.
 
IMO EMD boost is still there, it's just G's expectations for them are a lot higher!
