With regards to forum.nominet.org.uk. Do you think posts will be answered by Nominet? or we are just speaking to and amongst ourselves going around and around in circles?

My instinct is that Nominet may READ them. We're not going to see any comment from them, but at least there's a chance of an audience unlike here on Acorn where I'd bet nobody from Nominet has visited in years.
It's unfortunate that some are expending more energy excoriating domain investors on Nominet's forum than they are debating the actual issue at hand. There's a disturbing mood of gleeful triumphalism at the thought that "domainers" may be the most affected. Hopefully it's just a vocal minority.
My comments were in fact directed to rhaigh
They very rarely get involved in discussions on there, was the same on the old Nomsteer mailing list.

Just out of interest, how many Nom members are there and what proportion would you define as investors rather than just registrars? I think that it is just a vocal minority at the moment because only registrars have been notified of the proposals ( as far as I'm aware) while the 11 mil+ registrants "should check the Nominet website every now and again if they're interested in their domain names".
I know of 2 companies (with £100 mil+ turnover) with relatively generic domain names that they operate from and they have no idea "what i'm going on about and how the hell would there even be a small chance that this Nominet organisation not let them have their names in .uk, especially after we've put so much into our name already".
I think it's about 4,000 members. Here's the current list http://www.nominet.org.uk/whoweare/structure/members/list-members

Like L'Oreal perhaps? Take skincare.co.uk (amongst other generics they have). It'll be interesting to see if Corporates like this are able to replicate their generic portfolios, even partially!
Even with the cap on voting rights if the top 3 fanboy registrars vote the same way then it's a fait accompli.
We would like to thank all those who have already taken the time to give us their feedback to the consultation on the proposed new direct.uk service.
We have an FAQ available to provide further clarification on some of the questions stakeholders have asked. (http://www.nominet.org.uk/how-parti...y-discussions-and-consultations/direct-uk-faq)
We recognise that the proposals would represent significant change for the .uk domain name space, and have set up a number of different opportunities to get involved and ensure that any resulting service or changes would meet the needs of businesses, boost trust in the .uk namespace, and contribute positively to Britain's fast-growing internet economy.
1. Roundtables

You can sign up for the session dedicated to registrars on Tuesday 6 November 2012, 10.30 - 13.00 http://www.keysurvey.co.uk/f/463415/161e/
