Ok, I know its not a service that exists, and probably for a reason.

I am just wondering why you couldn't have a privacy option for just the address. In the same way you could use a mail forwarding service for the address.

You can opt out if you are a non trading individual.

http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrars/systems/data/fields/

opt-out Used to prevent the registrant's address details from being published in our WHOIS system.

The opt-out field is set with a value of y. This field can only be set if the registrant is an individual who is using the domain name for a purpose unconnected with any business, trade or profession. As such, use of the opt-out field is restricted to certain types of registrants. This field can be cleared by setting the default value of n.

If you are trading, then you would need to publish the company's registered address on the web site, so hiding it in the whois seems pointless as anyone wanting to make a basic check would see different details on the web and whois so would be likely to shop elsewhere.

If you are trading and you are reported to Nominet, the opt out flag is likely to be reset anyway.

What if your companies registered address is that of your accountant? Can you have your accountants address on the whois?

When you say company do you mean ltd company or any business for example a self employed individual, sorry if that sounds dumb.

Most domainers would be self employed on a part time basis therefore they are trading yet not technically a company, if I was Nom I would be asking why a non trading individual has 100, 200, 300 domain names in their account unless they were investing in which case you get into the area of capital gains:confused:

In fact I will shut up and go and watch the fireworks

Whether self employed or a registered company, both are "trading".

Also if you have one domain name and it is parked on a parking site, then this is also trading

Thanks because often when searching whois I see non trading individual but if you explore more they have large portfolios. I don't think the names are all just sat there doing nothing in these large portfolios. Obviously it is each to his/her own but sooner or later (if not already) somebody will ask questions and draw attention to this industry which in turn has the potential to have a negative effect on the genuine (if that's the right word) business orientated domainers.

or am I stating the obvious

If you see a "trading" individual who has opted out, then just flag it to Nominet and move on.

I'm sure Nominet are well aware of the "abuses" that take place :)
