I realise there are a few threads hovering around now of the different tools and features I have made over on seemly.co.uk. So I wanted to create a single point for all of my updates to the site and suite of tools.

Currently, the suite of tools consist of:
Any and all future updates will be added to this thread, alongside any messages of thanks for contributions towards further development.

I would appreciate it if any feature or tool suggestions be added to this thread, as I don't want to spam the forum.

A members area next is a priority.

Eventually, some tools will be premium, others will be extended and offer advanced functionality for subscribers, whilst many of the tools will be free.

Once the members area is in place, I will create a voting system where users can vote to prioritise items found on the feature plan.

I will also allow the ability for users to donate ££ to prioritise and speed up development for a specific feature (if they wish). I realise this is quite unlikely to happen, but I can hope, right? =)

So if you do have ideas, advanced features and/or feature suggestions, send them my way!!
Any and all suggestions that are relative to the (UK) domain space will almost definitely be added to the list, ready to be voted on!

Latest Update: .uk Rights of Registration Countdown

Whilst I realise there is still quite some time left for Rights of Registration on .uk domains (at time of writing: 645 days), I have created a countdown timer page that provides a little more information as to what RoR actually is.

.uk Domain Right of Registration countdown tool

    The next updates to this page will be;
    • A Whois form added to the page to allow users to check the RoR status of their domain(s)
    • When I have finished User Account signup/management, this will allow users to opt-in and receive email notifications when time is running out to secure your RoR domains.

Latest Update: New 'Source' added to domain prices

New 'Source' added to domain prices: ownthisdomain.co.uk
Only a small handful of domains added to the records (6 results), but it all adds up, I guess.

    Amazing! Thank you very much!

I haven't worked on it for a while, as motivation has been lost.
This is mainly due to the last 3 months or so being consumed by marathon training for an event on December 17th.

I'm sure I will get back on it at some point, but for now, it runs in the background, doing it's own thing.

    Honestly?
    • The domain I would like to use, but is already taken is domainprices.co.uk
    • I don't want to purchase yet another domain when this one will serve the purpose just fine.
    • I can't be arsed with setting up and managing another site.
    • I make no money from this website. It doesn't even pay for itself. I can't justify paying out for renewals and hosting for an application that works fine where it is.

That's not a great advertisement for the industry. Renewal is only £5 per year. It doesn't serve the purpose though does it. If it did you might make money. My question was simple, I thought seemly might have some connection that I wasn't aware of. A long tail descriptive may have been more appropriate and memorable. Just saying, no malice intended.

I bet that's going to stop you sleeping at night seemly lol. Especially since the industry is giving you back so much for your hard work :p

In answer to your non-malicious question:

Seemly has always been my development portfolio.
The domain prices and relevant tools just grew on the domain/website into what they are today

I didn't realise the data I have gathered and the tools I have developed were to give the domain industry some "great advertisement".

I always wanted to try and keep this data open and free to use. Maybe I should charge for it?
What are your thoughts on that? Would you pay for it?

If you want to buy and donate domainprices.co.uk to me, I'd appreciate that.
That would be a great advertisement for the industry. ;)

But on a serious note, I do own DomainSalesHistory.co.uk, but I personally found it too long and not really generic enough for what I have planned in the long term. So a generic, brandable domain name suits (me) just fine.

My reply isn't malicious at all. Off the bat responses to what came across as off the bat questions.
I'm not offended at all, and so I hope you too are not by my response.

Genuinely, this was actually my first thought.
I mean, I have Adsense on the site and most days I have ~100 visitors, and I make less than £0.04 per day if I'm lucky.

The people/users that would show any interest in this data are from this industry.
I'd say that that is reflective of the "great advertisement" for this industry he mentioned. :D

Many thanks to you mate for offering these tools for free. I offered similar tools years ago for free but they just never got enough loving or support to keep them going.

My initial question was why the domain was selected for the site. It was as simple as that. I obviously wish now I hadn't asked but it's done. When I sometimes want to visit the site I find it difficult to recall the name and that's the difference between having xsdgsaljh.co.uk and names co uk. But I see if want to visit the site then that is my problem to overcome. I accept that.

I see what I was missing. A site about domain names that places no importance on the power of a domain. I'm out.

    I hear what you're saying, but i'm not promoting/selling a product.
I'm not trying to promote the importance in the value of a domain name. Where have I ever said that?

I've made a set of tools that may or may not be useful to people, related to buying and/or selling domain names. It provides an insight to UK domain sale price trends over 12+ years to better help determine the price of a domain name today. I've spent many hours already developing the tools as it is, and although I do plan to develop them further, shit like this just makes me wonder "what's the point?"

The dataset is as accurate as the historic data I have been able to get hold of.
Very few people have helped me get it to where it is today, either through coding knowledge (hat tip to @Skinner for the bulk whois) or via PayPal donations (a huge thank you to all! you know who you are).

I don't see why I should have to think about how a user may find me in the long tail, or why I should have to incur additional cost because you struggle to remember the domain name? It doesn't benefit me.

I don't have a vast portfolio of quality domains that I can cross promote and sell.
I develop these tools to be helpful to those who do have a portfolio to sell, helping to provide their potential buyers with factual data over 12+ years.

I'm sorry you find it a chore to remember my domain name.

If you ever manage to sell a domain name and have used my website to help ascertain the value in the first place, or provide a link to the buyer so they can research themselves, maybe you could donate like 5% to me via paypal.

Maybe the data isn't as interesting or as helpful as I think it is/was.
